Senate Majority Leader Bill Frists (R-Tenn.) chief of staff has told conservative activist leaders and business-community representatives that Frist will soon trigger the so-called nuclear option to end threatened Democratic filibusters of President Bushs judicial nominees this month.
The chief of staff, Eric Ueland, said the event will take place in less than a month, according to several people who attended a closed-door meeting late last week.
But social conservatives are anticipating from conversations with Frists staff that the controversial move will take place next week and are predicting a conservative backlash if Senate Republicans delay any longer.
A conservative lobbyist came away from a separate conversation with Frists staff convinced that the disaffected Republicans will make their move in a matter of days.
Socially conservative groups would be important potential allies for Frist should he decide to run for president in 2008.
The leader of a broad coalition of conservative groups fighting to end the Democratic filibuster of judicial nominees, Manuel Miranda, chairman of the National Coalition to End the Judicial Filibuster, said: We all believe that it will be next week.
I believe its concrete, Miranda said. It must happen next week. It would be considered intolerable to delay any further than next week. He added, Were it to be delayed beyond the next week, the Senate GOP should expect tens of thousands of angry phone calls and faxes to tie up their lines.

I wish the Repubs would stop calling it the 'nuclear option' and start calling it what it is, "The Constitutional Option"!

'06 will be here and he will still be sayin that.
And if the Republicans are still able to maintain a majority after the '06 elections, he will till be saying it on election day in '08
I will believe it when I see it.
As far as I am concerned, Frist has lost his credibility.

ABSOLUTELY... It'll be a travshamockery of if the Republicans in the Senate do not support the constitution. I'm am fed up with their procrastination to friggin body-slam the anti-democratic "democrats." As mentioned in an earlier post, it's not the "nuclear" option, it's the Constitutional option. Essentially the democrats are saying "screw the will of the people." What are you going to do about it my elected Republican representive? And why do I even have to ask?

ME, EITHER! I am SO SICK of Frist the Frivolous. Why doesn't he just hand the reigns of the Senate over to Squint Reid and the rest of the RATs and be done with it. He obviously doesn't want to be the strong leader the Republicans need in the Senate to get things accomplished.

Does this mean the there will be a vote at the end of the month or another discussion on when they are going to discuss having a vote again.
To: Aquinasfan
