I'll get to First Lady Laura Bush's bawdy stand-up routine in a minute. But I want to highlight a related new book out about how young conservatives are shaking up the dominant liberal media culture. It's called "South Park Conservatives." My name is listed on the cover along with many other (mostly) right-leaning pundits, websites, and bloggers, but I must confess to having mixed feelings about the honor.
The best-selling book's author, Brian C. Anderson of the Manhattan Institute, writes a fun, breezy survey documenting the rise of talk radio, FOX News, the Internet, conservative publishing, and college Republican activism. Anderson's chapter on the success of conservative talk radio and the abysmal failure of liberal Air America to replicate it is incisive. Another chapter on the blogosphere (alone worth the price of the book)

To Michelle, from a proud SP conservative.
Okay momie, we feel properly scolded now. Sheesh, go but a sense of humor. I mean I love the gal but for Pete's sake lighten up.
Hey, that's great! With skills like that, you'll be the most qualified candidate when the Constitutional Party picks its nominee!
Welcome to FreeRepublic?
HAHAHA........a person who completely missed the meaning of the post he's replying to calling somebody else ignorant!
Bush hater.
Oh, who am I kidding....
Everything hater!
Heh heh...yeah. "Red Sleigh Down" was a brilliant defense of Christianity, but you had to pay attention. Looks like some folks didn't.
I like the heck out of Michell M. but she's wrong on this, and she's wrong about what a South Park Republican is, and she's wrong about Laura's joke, which was funny, IMHO. It isn't just the left that's humorless. Who fights that best, wins, or at least stays sane.
Fine, and you can't stop people who find the show vulgar and Christian-baiting, from saying so.
Hm, that's cool.
That reminds me--I had a friend in a chatroom I used to frequent who was an SP fan and a pretty committed Catholic. It seemed a bit incongruous, but I liked him anyway. :-)
I guess if it ever came down to the world being slowly taken over by rabid, flesh-eating chupacabras, I'd rather have an SP fan at my back than a Dem.
Wow. Who do you ever find to vote for?
I don't think that is the question. I think the real question is/are,
Is there any show at all that a Christian Conservative should avoid watching due to moral standards of any kind?
Is there more than one show in that category?
What criteria is that category based upon?
Is there a line to draw anywhere at all?
Does Hollywood get to be the ones to draw that line, if there is a line?
I merely point out your consistency in either being divisive, or encouraging division. Caveat emptor.
"Why the haste to claim it as a conservative show?"
No one is saying the show is conservative. It usually busts on both the left and the right, although the left gets it a bit more.
We simply have a sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves...yet one more thing that separates us from the liberals.
*LOL* Good guess.
Good questions. Christians are commanded by scripture to flee from occasions of sin. Surely that means that some Hollywood fare should be off-limits for Christians.
I never tried to. In fact, one of my first posts on this thread I said that I understand completely why friends of mine do not like South Park. But enjoying a television show does not preclude me from being a Christian or a conservative as some here are suggesting.
I kinda like Michelle, too, but it seems she has resorted to gonzo. Ratings, controvery, I dunno.
Telling truth is always going to seem "divisive" to people who don't want to hear it.
You're wandered on to the wrong floor, bucko. Weren't you suppose to get off the elevator on the floor with the big nice padded walls?
I knew all that hypocrite stuff would come up eventually.
I tend to think most people who attempt to argue that about Christians they personally dislike are hypocrites themselves.
Don't think so.
