ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - Ten years after a firefighter was left brain-damaged and mostly mute during a 1995 roof collapse, he did something that shocked his family and doctors: He perked up.
"I want to talk to my wife," Donald Herbert said out of the blue Saturday. Staff members of the nursing home where he has lived for more than seven years raced to get Linda Herbert on the telephone.
It was the first of many conversations the 44-year-old patient had with his wife, four sons and other family and friends during a 14-hour stretch, said Herbert's uncle, Simon Manka.
"How long have I been away?" Herbert asked.
"We told him almost 10 years," the uncle said. "He thought it was only three months."

That may be true it is misleading but he saw potential in Terri and had faith it would work I thought that what Godly folks were about keep on keeping on!

I was surprised to read the affidavit of Alexander T. Gimon, PhD, clinical neuropsychologist, who summarized findings on Terri's responsiveness.
My OWN notable hilights from that are as follows... (The first TWO points were from recordings ON VIDEO! Others were recordings on audio).
C 01 (Examination of Dr. Cranford on July 9, 2002) - After Terri's mother enters the room, Terri greets her by speaking the word "Hi", and makes good eye movement toward her.
7. Terri's condition cannot be considered persistent because she has obviously improved over the term of her disability, despite the fact that she has not received physical therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy or occupational / recreational therapy in many years.
9. At the beginning of the recording, Robert Schindler greets Terri and asks how she is. Terri responds, albeit with a slight delay, with a throaty sound. Mr. Schindler asks Terri if she can smile for him, to which she responds by saying “yeah”.
10. Early in the recording Terri responds to a number of Mr. Schindler's requests by saying the word "yeah", including when he asks her to "say something to me," when he asks "can you say hi," and when he asks if something is hurting her.
12. During the first interval in which Terri is listening to stimulation on the telephone [...] Terri uses the word "yeah" a number of times.
13. ...When Mrs. Schindler is finally reached [by telephone] and Mr. Schindler puts Terri on the phone with her mother, Terri becomes very quiet as she listens attentively. As the conversation progresses, Terri periodically responds with an "uh-huh" sound, which repeats, but at varying rather than regular time intervals, as is natural in conversation.
14. ...they undertook to encourage Terri to vocalize more, and encouraged her to say the word "yeah" as a way of answering "yes." Although they had previously heard Terri use the "uh-huh" and "ugh-ugh" sounds, they had never heard her say "yeah" since her collapse. At the time of the recording, Terri clearly had added this word to her repertoire, and uses it meaningfully to answer questions

The state pulled her feeding tube after 21 trials and hearings filled with nothing but testimony. Just because the testimony does not agree with the wacko stuff you read in the Schaivo threads does not make it untrue. Terri died a long time ago. Let her rest in peace.

Disgust and disbelief simmers deep within me about what supposed humans did to Terri.
I expect no less from leftists liberals, the republican tag line held above the actions done haunts the memory.

That account has also been suspended, but not by the FR. As for the documentation question, which I seem to have missed, it was a blooming tape all over the radio waves, with multiple people saying it was her voice. Therefore, the judges' lack of curiosity and concern for life simply damns them. 'No brainer' at this point. They may have well been in Lord of the Rings, the Stewart, trying to burn his son on a funeral pyre.
