'24' : An hour of realism
The Washington Times ^ | 4/29/05 | Christian Toto

Fox's "24" is pulling off the unthinkable this season. No, it's not that it's one-upping previous seasons with an electric blend of nightmare terrorist scenarios and bold twists. It's that it's dispensing with the politically correct evasions that pervade prime time episodic television. "24" identifies the terrorist enemy without flinching and lets the good guys fight to win -- without apologies. In the process, the show is earning a conservative cult following.

With all due respect to "24" fans, the BBC"s "MI-5" is a much better show. It's superb!

I wouldn't call it predictable and since you have only watched 15 minutes of it I would say you are unqualified to make such a statement.

Why do you feel we care about your review of 15 minutes of viewing? HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE PLOT LINES IF YOU DON'T WATCH?

Okay I admit it. I have yet to see an episode of 24. After the 24 craze got going I didn't join in because I missed the first few episodes. Sooooooo.... Is there some way I can catch up? Will there be a 24 marathon in the future?

Well that is bad, but I had a dead squirrel in the wall behind the dryer. Apparently came in through the dryer vent and got trapped. Has been a month and I still think I smell something "not right". I've taken out the insulation, vacumned in that wall and nothing I can do unless I knock out more walls. We can just not find where anything could be.

It's a lot of fun, but you have to swallow "suspension of disbelief" pills the size of bread loaves to watch it.

Neal Boortz promo today was something like,
Ritylin Radio for those liberals suffering from
Reality Deficit Disorder.

"Yeah, realism -- sure. This guy never sleeps, and an entire year of events happens in one day. Apparently the security of the entire country rests on the shoulders of one guy... yep, that's realism!"

You are sooo right there! Every time I see the show, I wish I could be the REAL Jack Bauer, he's out there somewhere you know!

Get me a hacksaw!

"That and the poor acting...."

LOL! Add the poor writing and the horrible dialog that NO ONE uses...it is actually a comedy farce, but most people who watch it don't understand that.

You must be high. Kim got rescued, and in so doing changed to a very tight tank-top T-shirt.

Very hot.

The speed dial thing from Marwan to "Amnesty Global" was wild. Apparently, the scriptwriters were being deliberately evocative of the Lynn Stewart/Sheik Rahman case.

"24" has been really good this season.

"Uh, yeah, sure. Realism to the max. It has a suitcase that allows someone to melt down every nuke in America. It has corporate interests in bed with Muslim terrorists because, hey, we can't have just plain ol' Muslim terrorists acting alone because that might get CAIR upset. It has terrorists engaged in several simultaneous plots, each of which individually would be almost impossible to pull off. And it has a small band of anti-terrorism experts working in a center that more resembles a soap opera than a serious agency."

And your point would be??? That Osama couldn't fly planes into the Twin Towers because that's too unreal? That Zarqawi doen't chop off heads because that would be too barbaric to show on the unreal "24"? That the Cole wasn't almost sunk by brazen "unrealistic" terrorists? That Tora Bora wasn't honeycombed with an unbelievable array of tunnels?

What IS your guys point? That you have zero, zilch, nada, imagination?

Try watching the first two seasons in one sitting. If you're handy with the fast forward you can view each season in about 18 hours. Trust me, after 48 (read: 36) hours of 24, you'll be pumped and feel the urge to do everything at triple speed. Going out for some bread and milk won't be the same.
