Vietnam Vets Battle Media Bias

No doubt the info these vets are gathering will NOT be found on any managed Google search. Only the MSM materials will be found. Oh, maybe Google will have them but they will be #299,900 out of 300,000 in "importance".

Much of this whole thing is on the mind of the media because their darling Ms. Fonda has re-emerged. Even my in-laws are buying her non-apology apology. The media has been very sympathetic to her this past few weeks. They've all forgotten or forgiven her. Easy for them, given that they weren't one of the folks who got left behind after the last airlift off of the roof of the American embassy that day.....or one of our soldiers or sailors who were forced to listen to her anti-American blather (along with John Kerry's) while they endured torture at the Hilton.

Okay, I was born in 1977. All throughout my formative years of elementary, middle and some high school (about my sophomore year I learned to find out facts for myself), we were taught about Vietnam in school. The message we were always given (by teachers, not veterans, mind you), was that the Vietnam veterans were mistreated when they came home by being criticized, confronted, and spit upon. We were told that the soldiers were not to blame for losing Vietnam, but the blame was to go to the top brass that would not run the war with the vigor it would take to win. We were taught that it is fine to disagree with a war, but to do it in a respectful way and to always remember that the troops are not to blame for any policy decisions.

So what in that was wrong that needs to be corrected?

Good to hear ... this group deserves our support. So tired of the media's spin on things. Time for the truth to win out. Probably a good thing for the Swift boat Vets to get behind as well - hate to see that fine organization fade away in anyway.

Well it is about time! I hate to see my father get upset when the guys come home...every time he prays that they don't have to go through what he did when he came home. When they do come home he is there, waiting at the airport, to give them a warm welcome. He hopes that one day he will too.

I would dispute that the top brass did not run the war with vigor. The politicians would not allow them to run the war without interference. Had Bush been in charge, we would have won. Actually, we didn't 'lose', we got tired and quit too early.

As one who was not only a combat Marine in Nam but was an S-2 Intelligence NCO in the "bush" who had access to Marine Corps/Naval intelligence; let me say that we did not lose one major battle during the entire Viet Nam war including the Tet Offensive. And of course there were aberrations like My Lai, but contrary to what the traitor Kerry "testilied", there were no "mass atrocities" by American G.I.'s. PERIOD!

This is factually incorrect. As one who "walked point" for the Fifth Marines in the An Hoa Valley in 1969 & 1970, I can tell you that on every occasion that I led a patrol out on the morning after an attack that once we reached the Laotian border we were ordered to turn back. This was the "cat & mouse" game that went on. We would get attacked at night and fight through the night and take out a patrol the next morning and go after the enemy only to be ordered to return once we reached the Laotian border. The problem wasn't the leadership in Nam. The problem was the leadership in DC! PERIOD!

Where is Ollie North on this issue? The old WWII stories (on War Stories) are great, but can't he also cover Vietnam (correcting some of the lies) and also Nicaraqua (correcting some of the lies)? Why doesn't he do this? I don't get it.

From your tag line I'm guessing you went to school in Kentucky.
I'm also guessing that Kentucky contributed more than a fair share of troops back in the days...and held a more compassionate attitude than, oh, say, San Francisco or L.A.

In '73 I returned through S.F., then spent time in Memphis and Long Island, Tucson, and Phoenix before returning home to So. Cal. Believe me when I say the attitudes were vastly different from city to city.

Apart from the trash tossed at me and the general interest in avoiding me altogether; my personnal fave's were "I'm sorry but (a) you don't have a right to take a job away from someone who (wasn't drafted)" and (b) same opening followed by "you'd upset the other employees".

Thanks for your service. I was at Tan Son Nhut and Pleiku from 7/68 to 7/69 and when we arrived at Travis AFB they told us to change into civvies before we went to SFO to fly home. When I got to the airport I saw why they told us that. Have never felt good about my homecoming but am damn proud of serving in 'Nam. I wore a POW bracelet when they came out with those and Col Day was the name on mine.

I'm no expert on Vietnam, but the little reading I did do, the people I know who were there, the historical data I have researched ALL indicates that the "Hollywood picture" of Vietnam, the generic "MSM version" presented to me in a 30 second sound bite is not accurate.

I went through Travis AFB and thru SFO in Oct '68. We wore uniforms in transit and it was hell going through that sh*thole SFO. There were stories/rumors of shots being fired here and there at servicemen in uniform on occasion. I don't know that it was true or not, but maybe that's why you guys going thru after us were told to wear civvies.

I will NEVER forget when the pilot banked the plane (Braniff) so we could see the Golden Gate all lit up (it was 2 AM or so) . The plane was dead silent and not a dry eye there when the pilot said, " Welcome home guys."

I have lived on both coasts and in Texas. Born a Hoosier and am finally back to raise my family here. Just a little advice if you are planning on moving here from either coast. Prepare to SLOW DOWN. You might also want brush up on manners and dignified eye contact. It is lost in the Coast Cultures.
