There is new information in the case of a decomposed female's body that was found at an Eastside apartment complex earlier this month.
Thursday, Tucson Police detectives spoke with the woman's brother who was supposed to be caring for his sister.
On April 5th, Tucson police made a welfare check at their home. Nothing prepared them for the gruesome discovery.
The badly decomposed body of Brenda Burton was found in a bedroom with quilts piled high on top of her.
Missing was her 50-year-old brother, Samuel, who family members say was supposed to be taking care of her.
Theresa Morton, a sister who lives in Altanta told Eyewitnes News 4, "I don't believe in my heart he would intentionally do anything to harm my sister. We are a tight-knit family so I don't know... Maybe he was afraid."
Morton, a gospel singer, says her father was a Baptist minister.
Her brother, Samuel, is an accomplished musician who studied at Julliard and preformed with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra.
He apparently lived with the dead corpse for 2 1/2 years. He told investigators his sister, Brenda, died on November 29, 2002 from natural causes.
Morton says, "The behavior is not normal. What happened is not a normal situation."
Morton says she last saw her brother and sister in 1997.
Eyewitness News 4 has learned that Samuel has been living at the Valley Health Care and Rehabilitation center.
Police say he has a medical condition but won't elaborate. He refused an interview with Eyewitness News 4.
The investigation continues because police want to know why he didn't report the death and why he reportedly cashed his sister's Social Security checks even though she was dead.
Do bodies ever decompose nicely?
There's even more Social Security fraud going on out there. Wonder how many corpses get checks every month. Don't expect our feckless government to ever find out.
"...why he reportedly cashed his sister's Social Security checks..."
Explains it all.
Gee, what was your first clue?
It is amazing how much trouble people will go to in order to get out of working.
"Morton says she last saw her brother and sister in 1997."
Yet she says the family it tight-knit! Not too tightly wound, I'd say.
don't ya love it when "Captain Obvious" shows up ?
Another "close-knit" family whose sisters and brother haven't contacted each other in eight years. Who writes this stuff?
Whatever happened to the oldie-but-goodie, "No comment."? Just because a microphone and camera are shoved in your face it doesn't mean you are obliged to say anything.
See Vladmir Lenin's corpse.
He was a composer, and she was a decomposer.
Doesn't the cashing the check supply the answer to the question of not reporting her death.
If ONLY incestuous marriage were legal, he would not have violated the law cashing her checks. WHY can society sanction such alternative lifestyles? < /sarcasm >
That or reform SS to permit check to be inherited by anyone defined in the will. Why should government get to keep the checks someone earned just because they died?
Only if you're Vladimir Lenin or a Russian Mafia Boss.
because the whole (government) is greater than the sum of it's parts (working peons)
Not only that, but I guess she didn't find it odd to not speak to her sister on the phone in 2 1/2 years.
Oh, it was a dead corpse. Okay.
