I think if she's charged anywhere it'll be New Mexico where she told the 911 operator she was kidnapped wouldn't she ?
GA DA's just pissin in the wind IMHO.....
What she did in GA by running away wasn't a crime. No one can prove she was aware of the search for her unless she admits to such and then I'm not sure that's even a crime to remain quiet. (should be )
What she did in ABQ NM with the 911 call was a crime IMO.
She should pay back all the cost of searching for her. How can she not know? It was all over the news. Wasn't she in a hotel or something? Couldn't she have called her husband and said she had a little cold feet. Is that worse or running off and making everyone think the worst? The poor guy was branded a suspect by the police. They gave him one lie detector test and after he passed it they wanted another one. She knew that. Yet she only came forward when her money ran out. She deserves every criticism she gets.
Remember, she called her fiance in Georgia before she called 911 in New Mexico. Apparently, she somehow was transferred to the Duluth, GA police chief, Randy Belcher, and told him she was kidnapped.

Exactly. Going on a bus trip is not a crime even in GA. Hard to see how lying to the police in N.M. could be a crime in GA?
Certainly going on the trip and not telling anyone ended up costly for the local community, but what is the crime? Maybe the local community could sue her for the tort of fraud if she discared clothing and left some hair if any of that stuff they found was hers. But she did not report a crime so they jumped to the conclusion so I don't even see a criminal fraud.
Well, she did deliberately allow Georgia law enforcement agencies to waste a ton of money looking for her.
Which reminds me of this joke.........
Man phones his friend's house: "Hi, Jennifer. Is your Daddy home."
Five year old Jennifer in a very soft voice: "He's very busy."
Man: "What about your Mommy?"
Jennifer: "She's very busy too. They're both talking to all the Policemen."
Man: "Police?!? The Police are at your house?"
Jennifer: "Yes. There's lots of them. And a helicoper too. And Police doggies."
Man: "But...but....why?"
Jennifer: "They're all looking really hard."
Man: "Oh, my goodness!!! What are they looking for?"
Jennifer: "They're looking for me."
I would like to retain the option to disappear and start my life over. The only way I would go along with a "must tell" would be if LE were not permitted to disclose my location, if I asked.
They could issue a generic statement. . . "We have confirmed the subject is safe blah, blah, blah. . ."
NM isn't going to charge her. It was all over our news last night.
GA DA's just pissin in the wind IMHO....
I agree. I think he's just trying to make a name for himself.

The police in Albuquerque were told immediately after they picked her up, that the kidnap story was not true. She told them she was scared and had been under tremendous stress due to the size of the wedding, and all that goes with it. I get the impression that the size of it is because her husband's family is prominent.
What she did in ABQ NM with the 911 call was a crime IMO.
Since she admitted it without causing them any additional searching for the "perps" they will not charge her. In fact, they gave her an escort to the plane and a teddy bear like they give to little kids. THAT should tell people what her mental condition was. The police chief said "she snapped under pressure." APD left me with the impression that she might have had a nervous breakdown. He said she spent the first two days on the bus, and then another 14 hours on it back to Albuquerque. There was no way she could have known about the magnitude of the search going on in GA.
If he really loves her, they will work through this whole ordeal, but if he doesn't then it's better that they know now, because it will never last.
When it comes to the law, Georgia is very weird. Trust me, they'll find something.
Don't want anything to do with her! We'll stick to the homegrown nutjobs thank you very much.
I think the Ga DA may have a case based on the following statement;
"The charges potentially would stem from Wilbanks reporting her kidnapping story on the phone to Duluth Police Chief Randy Belcher, Porter said, adding that he had no jurisdiction over the woman's 911 call to Albuquerque authorities.
