Shortly before the plane touched down at 9 p.m. in Atlanta, a flight attendant handed out a written statement from the Wilbanks family to the media that said: "She has spoken to her fiance. He cannot wait to see her. She says the wedding is not called off, just postponed."

I think we have set a high bar for marriage so we have older brides and grooms. After alot of thought, I decided young marriages work out best. Now I know that is not always true but growing up together sort of binds you for life.

This expectation that no man would want a flaky bride is not true. Some men worship at the altar of flaky brides.

I was sort of a flaky, insecure bride. Skittish is how they describe it down here. My husband adored it,,his life mission was to "settle" me down. It worked. I am a rock solid grandmother now. He couldn't live without me nor me without him. We "smoothed" each other's rough spots!!!

I love marriage stories and think marriage is our greatest institution. It amazes me what marriage does for a person over time.

He loves the drama. It sort of makes his light bulb wattage increase. He is dim I do believe.

Some men just love this kind of woman.

I don't get what is with the blanket over her head and police escort all over like she is a crime witness or victim.

And now the flight attendant is handing out her publicity statement?

She sure does have people at her service.

Sorry, but she's nuts. It's in her eyes.

Like Nancy Pelosi eyes.

sexual attractiveness is hardly irrelevant in a marriage

Uhhh... you'd be surprised. A lot of really plain people are pretty hot. It depends on what you focus on.

At this point "hotter" can merely mean "pleasant on the eyes, and not a loon" and the guy is really in a position to trade up.

Yes, it could, but it is a confusing term to use.

And from what Fox reported, she's done the "cold feet" excuse twice before. Drama queen.

Yeesh. Yeah, the woman needs help, not marriage.

Hey, does anyone think they were both in on this? He sure was calm about it.

I don't think he knew, but I think deep down he suspected it. He covered all the bases by searching for her. What was he supposed to say last week? Well, yeah, I could see her doing that, so let's not make a big deal of her disappearance? What if she really was in trouble? He did the right thing. This guy looks smart enough to know what he is getting into. He looks like he enjoys a wild ride. They should lead a very interesting life together. The big question is, will she be able to take the teasing about this from him for the rest of her life?! Will he ever let her go jogging or to the store alone?

Well, the boy just ain't right hisself.

LOL...I noticed that. Those two are two peas in a pod. He has a very good sense of humor and uses it under pressure. I think she was buckling under the big wedding pressure, he was cracking jokes, and the fight or flight syndrom kicked in. If this was a movie, it would be a comedy. Thank God she is safe. They will work it out one way or the other. I think they will live happily ever after. However, she should have not put that towel over her head. She should have walked out with her chin up to go home.

Percy Sledge...very few people know who sang that...yeah, you must have gone through it. You are so right....and no one can tell you anything different when "the spell" is on.

Why was he so afraid of a polygraph done by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation?

The test isn't 100% reliable? He didn't want to take the chance of it looking like he did something to her, when he knew (and we now know) that he didn't.

You are right. Her Mother has to give her the basics of "holding your head high" in a lecture.

Hot is as Hot does. I know it when I see it?

You've just used the adjective correctly, why the rhetorical?

Hot is not just appearance, but the whole package. Ginger vs. Mary Ann. The Girl Next Door.

"Plain" can absolutely be hot - just as beautiful can be not-hot if she's an ice queen.

Sexuality means different things to different people, but it's still important to a marriage.

"A dumb guy who is the son of a respected man of the town, that's who."

Your optimistic take on this is misplaced, IMO. The whole AGAINST ALL ODDS romantic fantasy may appeal to women, but marriage is not a lighthearted and whimsical affair.

How could any groom be presented with a more perfectly wrapped gift of WARNING than this "dumb guy"?

As much as I can tell, it is the same with Mary and me. She was a little "high-strung" back when I met her in 1973, but I felt I wanted to have that work for her and felt that I could help her. It has worked for her. And, she has directed my scattered and 'less-than-organized style' into something profitable and manageable. I thank her for that every day.

I too love what marriage can do, and adore the closeness that is so beautiful to see and feel grow over the years.

I dont know but my marriage is very light hearted and whimsical. And believe me, given the very high standards on this thread, nobody would have married me. And I have been married for forty years. We never even thought about divorce, murder,,yes,,but no divorce.
