PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady are spending the weekend in Washington, where they will attend the 91st annual White House Correspondents' Association banquet. The Vice President and Mrs. Cheney will also attend, along with nine Cabinet members and two Supreme Court justices, Antonin Scalia and Stephen Breyer. News organizations invited show business and sports stars such as Goldie Hawn, LL Cool J, Richard Gere, Jane Fonda [traitorous scum], and the starting quarterbacks of this year's Super Bowl, Tom Brady of the New England Patriots and Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Award winners announced earlier this month:
Ron Fournier of The Associated Press, the Merriman Smith Award for presidential coverage under deadline pressure for his stories on Bush's victory over John Kerry.
Susan Page of USA Today, the Aldo Beckman Award for her stories on the presidency and the presidential campaign.
Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Edgar A. Poe Award for a series of stories on athletes' steroid use.
Presidents since Calvin Coolidge have attended the dinner hosted by the association, which was established in 1914 as a bridge between the press corps and the White House.
This edition of the Dose is dedicated to our wonderful First Lady, Laura Bush, who continues to work tirelessly to help our nation's youth.
THE WEEK AHEAD: The Press Secretary did not cover the week ahead in his Friday press briefing. So all that I have is that the President will travel to Mississippi this week on his continuing Social Security tour. He will welcome Nigerian President and current Chairman of the African Union, President Obasanjo, to the White House on May 5th.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the President's speech on energy policy before a Small Business Administration conference in Washington, D.C., Wednesday:
"The problem is clear," said President Bush. "This problem did not develop overnight, and it's not going to be fixed overnight. But it's now time to fix it. See, we got a fundamental question we got to face here in America: Do we want to continue to grow more dependent on other nations to meet our energy needs, or do we want to do what is necessary to achieve greater control of our economic destiny?"
"I made my decision," President Bush continued. "I know what is important for this country to become less dependent on foreign sources of energy, and that requires a national strategy. Now, when I first got elected, I came to Washington and I said, we need a national strategy. And I submitted a national strategy to the United States Congress. And it has been stuck. And now it's time for the Congress to pass the legislation necessary for this country to become less dependent on foreign sources of energy."

The very notion that Hanoi Jane should be in the same room with our Dubya just frosts me. I despise the Leftist media types who invited her to this evening's affair.

Maybe the folks at Yahoo noticed our "man of a thousand faces" series on the President, because they published this montage today.

After leaving Mexico, the First Lady traveled this week to promote her initiative to spotlight the needs of the nation's boys. Here are some photos from the WH website:

Laura talks with, from left, Gabriel Flores, Archie Dominguez and Shirley Torres during a discussion at Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles April 27. Homeboys Industries is an job-training program that educates, trains and finds jobs for at-risk and gang-involved youth.

She watches a silkscreen demonstration during a tour of Homeboy Industries.

This young man gets his shirt autographed by one of the most popular First Ladies in history. Her "approval ratings" are sky high, which has the liberal media scratching their heads in wonder. After all, she "doesn't say anything" like Hillary Clinton did (according to one dumb article this week). Tell that to the young people she has toured the country to try to help.

Here the First Lady hugs a student at Chipman Middle School in Alameda, Calif. This is one of the most touching photos I can recall seeing of Laura.

Laura listens as students read aloud in class during a Helping America's Youth event at Chipman Middle School.
