My total phone bill for the past month was $33.62. The total taxes and surcharges were $13.29. That makes taxes and surcharges a total of 39.53% of the total bill, but a whopping 65.37% of the total phone charges from SBC.
Outraged Bostonians started a revolution over a tax increase that raised taxes to a level of about 3%. When are present day Americans going to free themselves from the bondage of governments?
ditto: cell phone $29.95 with tax $37.93
home phone $49.95 with tax $72.00
our cable tv bill is the same
we let them get away with it
As soon as we are willing to take our rifles and line up on Lexington green again
The American Revolutionaries wasted alot of really good tea! I suspect had they kept it we wouldn't have been stuck with Lipton for so long.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say never.
What about real estate taxes, gasoline taxes? We, the sheeple, keep complaining, and keep on paying.
Telemarketers made me hate the phone so much, I will not use it anymore, so for me, it's a non-issue.
Email is asynchronous, and not intrusive, and I do not have to drop everything when email arrives...An hour or two for an answer is fine. Spam filters and blocking continue to improve, and I rarely get any anymore.
But "Do not call " lists have too many exemptions for "Charities*" and in effect, do not work as well as spam filters now.

After 25+ years in telecom (background Electrical Engineer) I started this business last year.......
VoIP is currently not subject to the state & federal taxes (3% excise tax excluded) that the standard local and LD carriers must charge.
Unfortunately, we do not sell direct but only Affinity groups....
Hmmmmm...maybe I should talk to Jim Robinson....
NeverGore :^)
My only phone at home is a pre-paid minutes cell - less than $8.00 a month. No cable. :)
Does that include your 900 number calls? :)
we HAVE to pay for car insuranc, state license and tags. we HAVE to pay home insurance, and we HAVE to pay property, income, sales, taxes.
we HAVE to pay for license to hunt, fish, drive, work(trades)etc.
we HAVE to pay for permits to build, roof, side, put in a driveway, burn, plumb, paint, etc.
all of these charges go straight to the government who still bitches that they can't balance the budget.
I am one of the lower middle class who can't save (yet anyway) because i'm right in the middle of raising kids and there just isn't enough money after paying all of the afore mentioned to save for retirement. If i'm lucky i won't be poverty stricken in my old age.
And this is also getting worse and this is also why I hope that when i die, anything that i did manage to accumulate will be allowed to go to my children without being taxed away to nothing so that maybe they won't have to spend the most productive years of their youth NOT being able to put a little away for themselves!
Only the ones I made to Clinton consultants.

COMMENTS:
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world, had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

That's only because the politicos haven't gotten around to you yet. Your day will come. And soon.
During the period 1912-1932, Socialists took control of the Democratic party. After 1932, Democrats (Socialists) took complete control of government. The United States will never be safe as long as a single Democrat holds elected public office.
