Oh, but of course, enzyme reverse transcriptase.

Thanks. ;-)

"What if a human brain somehow got trapped inside a sheeps head?"I'm sure someone will try it.How about humans raised simply to be harvested to supply organs?Horrific when you think about it.

I wrote an unpublished short story, "Neomort," about a time in the near-future when people declared brain-dead would be kept alive to harvest their organs for the more-worthy living.

The hook was, of course, that while the existing level of tests confidently assured everyone that Neomorts were really not aware of their plight-- they were...

reverse transcriptase

Sorry, I forgot they didn't teach that stuff back when you took biology. ;-)

I saw that exact thing on 'Trauma,Life in the ER' the other night.

An accident victim was declared 'dead' and the Dr. told the crew to keep life support going until the organs could be harvested.

I'll bet it's common.
........

There was a thread on FR a day or two ago concerning a couple in Britian wanting a 'designer' baby hopefully to use for transplant purposes for another child with some disease.

Sick

"Particularly worrisome to some scientists are the nightmare scenarios that could arise from the mixing of brain cells: What if a human mind somehow got trapped inside a sheep's head?"

Sorry Scientists. It's already happened. One visit to Democratic Underground will confirm that finding, LOL!

[Short answer: xeno transfer is already with us and if the human being can be held in highest regard (higher than the pigs, goats, sheep, etc. being harvested, then there is a real medical benefit in the processes.]

I'm grateful that you said that. My son is a T-1 diabetic and, right now, his greatest hope is in encapsulated swine islet cells. Even if we could get around the immunity issues of human-to-human transplant, there would never be enough cadaver islets to treat every diabetic. There will be enough pigs.

My mother just lost a friend who couldn't get a new kidney. Heck, Aah-nold has a swine valve in his heart. The animals were put here for our use, not for us to cater to them. We care for them and they give us life in return. We take them into our bodies every time we eat a hamburger or even jello. I see this as just another extention. The pig with a human immune system is still a pig. It had pig parents, it looks like a pig, it eats like a pig, it has the instincts of a pig. With a touch of our DNA, it serves us further.

"What if a human mind somehow got trapped inside a sheep's head?"

Hillary Clinton

Clearly not a country boy are you? Some day I'll take you out to my uncle's farm and show you the difference between a sheep's head and a horse's ass.
