[history]
RENO, Nev. - On a farm about six miles outside this gambling town, Jason Chamberlain looks over a flock of about 50 smelly sheep, many of them possessing partially human livers, hearts, brains and other organs.
The University of Nevada-Reno researcher talks matter-of-factly about his plans to euthanize one of the pregnant sheep in a nearby lab. He can't wait to examine the effects of the human cells he had injected into the fetus' brain about two months ago.

Particularly worrisome to some scientists are the nightmare scenarios that could arise from the mixing of brain cells: What if a human mind somehow got trapped inside a sheep's head?Witchcraft?

How does e.coli bacteria generate human insulin? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

What are your thoughts on this?
I have no ill feelings for animal testing for clinical trials for meds....
but this bothers me.

but this bothers me. No kidding. These are some sick twisted people. It reminds me of Nazi Germany's doctors when they tried to impregnate women in concentration camps with dog sperm. These experiments are an abomination to the human species.

Oh my, dear Lady, you don't want me to post the lengthy 'thoughts' I have on this chimera approach. But that manuscript is still available for free downloading and it has a section on chimeras (
http://weneedtalk.blogspot.com is the link addy, for anyone wanting more on stem cells. cloning, chimeras, etc., in layman's language ). [Short answer: xeno transfer is already with us and if the human being can be held in highest regard (higher than the pigs, goats, sheep, etc. being harvested, then there is a real medical benefit in the processes.]

"What if a human brain somehow got trapped inside a sheeps head?"I'm sure someone will try it.How about humans raised simply to be harvested to supply organs?Horrific when you think about it.

Using recombinant DNA has been done for 25 yrs. saving many lives, i'd say it's very good.

How has Genetic Engineering helped develop insulin production?
Rather than relying on insulin extracted from animal sources, genetic technology has permitted the production of large quantities of essentially human insulin by bacterial cells. Following the extraction of insulin messenger RNA from human pancreatic cells, copy (cDNA) is made using the enzyme reverse transcriptase. Along with a bacterial regulator gene, the cDNA is incorporated (ligated) into a bacterial plasmid. The transformed plasmid vector is then reinserted into a bacterial cell where it replicates. All the plasmids code fro the production of proteins, including human insulin. Genetic engineering, therefore, is being used for the production of large quantities of human insulin under carefully controlled conditions. |
