BAGHDAD, Iraq At least 23 people died and another 80 were injured Friday in a series of car bombs and mortar attacks in Iraq while an Iraqi soldier died in an explosion near the southern city of Basra.
Also Friday, an audio tape purportedly from Jordanian terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (search) urged more attacks on U.S. forces so that President Bush would not enjoy "peace of mind."
"You, Bush, we will not rest until we avenge our dignity," the voice said. "We will not rest while your army is here as long as there is a pulse in our veins."
The speaker on the tape, which could not be verified for authenticity, identified himself as the terrorist mastermind and leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq (search). It was not clear if the release of the tape was timed to coincide with the string of deadly explosions.
"We've heard junk like this from Zarqawi before," Major Gen. William Webster, commander of the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division, told FOX News. "We think it's not going to make any difference. We've been preparing for this for some time, the counter attacks, and they're probably occurring as he sees desperation."
Webster said Zarqawi may be responding to the internal political situation in Iraq. The attacks came a day after Iraq's interim National Assembly approved a Cabinet lineup, laying the groundwork for the first elected government since Saddam Hussein's (search) ouster to take power soon.
Nearly a third of the 275-member National Assembly stayed away from the vote, underscoring the myriad ethnic and religious divisions that have hampered the formation of a government since landmark parliamentary elections on Jan. 30.

7 captured a developing story on FOX
7 terrorists or 7 GI's???????
Just what the heck is this moron trying to accomplish anyway... he wants US troops out, and so he kills Iraqi's, and then the US has to stay longer to train Iraqi's so they can stop him from killing them so he kills more to make the US leave so we stay longer to train more ....
You really have to be an idiot to be terrorist, but where are the Iraqi people- why are they not speaking up against him killing their own poeple
Now Zarqawi's ultimate goal seems to be preventing W from having "peace of mind"? It's gonna get a lot harder to find recruits to blow themselves up for such an endeavor.
7 terrorists were captured by Iraqis and US forces.
Thank you
Yes,thank you!
""You, Bush, we will not rest until we avenge our dignity,""
Keep waiting you ahole. I guess 1400 years isn't long enough.
Dignity? Nothing could "avenge" your dignity because you never had any. Your god is a demon and your religion was an invention by a psychotic despot named Mohammed to brainwash and dupe stupid ignorant fools like yourself.
The only dignity you deserve is to be looking down the barrel of a M16.
You, Bush, we will not rest until we avenge our dignity
Pride goeth before a Fall.
Zarquawi ..you bring shame to your Father,Your family, your race, and your Religion.
Your heart is Blackened with Hate...You are dead inside.
There is only Judgement left for You. You are covered in the Blood of your Murders.
All who support you are guilty of the same crimes.
It is you who will have no Peace.
You will be brought down by the Eagle. Read your own Bible you Rat.
Honesty how long are we going to give the Iraqi people?

He needs to recruit in the Democratic Underground!
;)
I swear I don't understand this behavior. That may be a good thing I guess. Dear God please protect our heroes.
You may not be fair off. I read over there regularly and to my surprise, there are a far number of decent individuals. I don't like the way they express themselves and many of them want to mooch off of those of us they consider "wealthy," but a surprising number of them think like freepers on a number of issues. But I do believe that enemies of the US, inside and out, pose over there and get the people riled up to lead to subordination from within. They are more emotional and less rational than we are, as a whole.
"He needs to recruit in the Democratic Underground!"
The honest truth is both groups have much in common.
They both hate America, have no respect for human life, they hate independent thought, worship pagans, hate prosperity and freedom;
Any one else want to add to the list?
It's going to take more than a few orchestrated Car Bombings to pry the Coalition out of Iraq, Zarqawi. Your idiotic Car Bombing of 120 plus Iraqis waiting in line to enlist was the worst mistake you could have possibly made!
You've lost the momentum and the people! And with their help, I'm sure that they can find you long before 2008.
Jack.
Yeah, it's been a whole three months since their first free elections. Can't they build a free country any damn faster??
