Air America Is Finding an Audience (CEO Claims Success but Hides Real Numbers)
Los Angeles Times ^ | Danny Goldberg

Posted on 04/29/2005 3:03:41 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Check out the linked defense of Air America by its CEO, which recently appeared in the form of a letter-to-the-editor in the Los Angeles Times.

Talk about lying with statistics!

He claims their audience as "quadrupled since nine months ago." But what he doesn't tell us is what those original ratings were, or what they are now.

Acoording to the letter-writer to whom Goldberg is responding, Air America's ratings:

"are pitifully weak, even in places where you would think they'd be strong. WLIB, its flagship in New York City, has sunk to 24th in the metro area Arbitron ratings — worse than the all-Caribbean format it replaced."

Maybe Al Franken and Randi Rhodes could perk up their pitiful ratings if they sang their vicious attacks to a reggae beat.

The word is probably going out through the liberal cocktail party network: if anyone asks, say you listen!

I know 5 characters who listen to Air America's Randi Rhodes. (p..ssst: They all live in 'one' body and each has its own radio.)

LOL.

Wouldn't you like to see Air America's financials? I wonder how many millions they've burned through?

Will the recent fiasco with the gunshot stunt on Randi Rhodes' show be the final straw? What advertiser will want to be associated with that kind of thing?

The tone-deaf cluelessness of the Left never ceases to amaze me. Err America will sink or swim depending solely on gaining enough audience to find support of paying sponsors. Just like any other show.

Speaking as a long-time listener to talk radio, if they do, more power to them, and if they don't? Too bad. It's capitalism at its finest.

My own opinion? They already have too much competition from the Stone Age Media for their message to find many new listeners.

Great point. Rush burst on the scene 15 years ago because there was a huge, unmet demand for conservative talk. But liberals have all the major broadcast networks from which to choose, plus NPR, the leading daily newspapers, Hollywood, etc.

I've heard it put this way. If two Eskimos live in Fayetteville, NC and next year four more Eskimos move there, one could honestly say the Eskimo population in Fayetteville has tripled. Thing is, there would still only be six Eskimos in town.....

I've read where ERR America needs fund raisers to keep afloat. So ERR America has both fund raising campaigns and commercials, combining the most annoying features of both commercial and public radio stations in one package. Doesn't sound too promising to me.

*who does advertise on Err America?*

According to this article, everyone from GM used cars to hypnotherapists to people advertising gatherings for a cult that promises the imminent arrival of the Messiah!

Don't even go there...You let one Eskimo in town, and there goes the neighborhood...
