Protest In Colorado Springs

A local activist group, Students for Social Justice, from UCCS is planning a "counter military recruitment" demonstration at the Citadel Recruiting Station (U.S. Army Recruiting Station, 1055 N. Academy Blvd) on Saturday, 30 Apr 05 at 1200.

The demonstration is expected to be peaceful and no specific targeting of military personnel is anticipated. All military members are being encouraged to avoid the demonstration to avoid becoming a target of opportunity for the protestors.

If you drive a vehicle with a military base decal, be advised of this event.

This is a real email I just received. I think I will go buy doughnuts and coffee for the recruiters on this day and deliver it myself. And yes, my vehicle has the decals they mention. Yes the email alert is real. Yes, I work at a military installation. Wonder if any freepers would like to counter-counter-protest? :)

No, not "right there". The Citadel is south on Academy Blvd, about 7 or 8 miles south of the Academy. But, it's "right here" in Colorado Springs, if that is what you mean.

Is this scheduled to take place inside the mall? That's private property. Let's let the management of the mall know what we think about this.

Prediction: anti-military protest in the 'Springs will not get far. Too many military bases: the Carson base, Peterson airfield, Air Force Academy, etc. Maybe they'd have easier pickings if they went to somewhere in Connecticut.

United States Air Force Academy, Peterson Air Base, Cheyenne Mountain Air Base (North American Air Defense Command), Shriever Air Base (Global Positioning System and the Global Information System) Fort Carson (7th Infantry Div., 3rd Armored Calvalry Regimen, 10th Special Forces), US Spacecom, NORAD Command Center, just to name the top few. They forget to mention that beware of the University of Colorado liberal influence on UCCS (Univ. of Colo @ Colo Spgs) and the "military stickers on cars" outnumber the Non-military stickers and the the citizenry is well armed.

I'm going to be in Colorado Springs for vacation in mid-June, call these doofuses and see if they'll change the date of the protest so I can join the counter-protest.

Very good advice, the Mall will do anything to avoid negative news. This is where we let our kids go into the mall and "hang out" as with a great security team, the Citadel is a very secure place....however, about 10 steps outside the mall is not necessarily considered in this light.

Thanks, we're looking forward to it. One of my kids is interested in radio drama as a career, so we're going to tour Focus on the Family and their radio drama facility as a bit of career research.

Ever hear of the Lone Duck campground? If so, is it any good?

First off.. the address on Google Maps shows that it is not at the mall (but Google Maps also shows my house someplace other than where it is). It shows it on the NE corner of Academy Blvd and Galley Road. I will have to make a trip there today to verify the exact location. I don't really trust the online maps sometimes, and I don't have my laptop and mapping software at work.

Secondly, if it is on Mall Property (which I don't recall a recuirting station being there) then they have to have a permit I'm certain of that. Which also means that counter protesters would probably require one as well. I'll have to check into this though. Get back in a bit.

Looking in my phone book, you are absolutely right. The SW corner of Academy Blvd. and Galley Road is the Citadel property. I see that the recruiting office is next to if not in the same building as the Social Security Admin. just to the north of Office Depot on the NE corner of Academy Blvd and Galley Road. BTW, there is no way they would allow this protest at the Citadel anyway.

For those of us who are not from Colorado, what is UCCS?
And how do we get in touch with UCCS?

I have a few choice words for the ungrateful degenerates who don't appreciate those of us who have and are fighting for their freedom.

I was talking about bringing doughnuts and coffee to the military guys :)

Ok, spoke to a Petty Officer there just now, they are fully apraised of the "protest situation" and are not going to be in their offices that day. Simple, avoid the problem and let the protesters be ignored.

on the other hand he thanked me for notifying him of the protest and thanked the Freepers for supporting them.

The physical location is definately on the North East Corner of Academy Blvd and Galley Road and it is NOT on Mall property.

So, that map link I posted is pretty accurate.
