'ET' Snares Rights To Letourneau Wedding (Entertainment Tonight Celebrates Child Rapists Wedding)
The San Francisco Chronicle/AP ^ | April 28, 2005 | Peggy Andersen

The television show "Entertainment Tonight" has won the rights to the planned May wedding of Mary Kay Letourneau and her former sixth-grade pupil Vili Fualaau, the father of her two youngest children.

ET and its sister show, "The Insider," planned to begin offering the first in a series of interviews with the couple Thursday. The date and location of the wedding have not yet been disclosed.

Letourneau, 43, served 7 1/2 years in prison after she was convicted of raping Fualaau, 22. She was released last August.

The couple first met when he was in second grade. Their relationship became sexual when he was 12 and she was a 34-year-old married mother of four and an elementary school teacher.

"Entertainment Tonight" is produced by Paramount Domestic Television. Paramount spokesman Manfred Westphal declined to disclose the fee for the wedding rights, but said a reported sum of $500,000 was "ridiculous."

The couple's two daughters — 7-year-old Audrey and 6-year-old Alexis — will be flower girls, Fualaau told ET.

"We're excited to have as many family members involved as possible," Letourneau said, suggesting "special roles" for her two sons and two daughters from her previous marriage.

Fualaau said he proposed to Letourneau "seven or eight years ago."

"She's the same person I fell in love with a long time ago," he said.

Letourneau was pregnant with Fualaau's first child when she was arrested in 1997. She pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree child rape and was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison, with all but six months suspended.

Just switch the genders in this whole story and imagine what a screaming, shrieking witch-hunt the MSM would be on right now...

Call me unromantic, but the logical outcome of this story is that several years down the road she is arrested again on similar charges.

I suspect that sometime down the road the excitement and media coverage will evaporate and a nasty divorce will follow.

I don't blame the media for this; I blame whoever watches this completely tasteless show. No viewers, no show.

Since she's a registered sex offender, may I assume no children other than theirs will attend the wedding?

OK guys - here's a little Poli-Sci trivia for you:

John Schmitz, former Republican Congressman from CA (late 60s, early 70s); ran for president in 1976 on the American party ticket -
- he is the father of Mary Kay Letourneau.

Yeah, I know - who cares? you say.
Pretty odd, though, how father and daughter would grab headlines decades apart for such different reasons. (I bet he's heartbroken over his daughters "lifestyle choices")

To call this rape deeply diminishes the word.

This almost perfect in bad taste. What would make it perfect is if David Lee Roth was the wedding singer.

The couple's two daughters — 7-year-old Audrey and 6-year-old Alexis — will be flower girls, Fualaau told ET.

In five or six years they'll be in 6th grade and looking for husbands.

Perhaps he WAS. At least I thought he died a while back.
