Frist to Press for Release of Clinton IRS Report
NewsMax ^ | 4/27/05 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 04/27/2005 4:55:42 PM PDT by wagglebee

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Wednesday morning that he'll press for the release of findings by independent counsel David Barrett, whose probe into former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros reportedly concluded that Clinton officials at the Internal Revenue Service conducted politically motivated audits of White House enemies.

"I believe the investigators should be permitted to complete their work and to issue their final report," Sen. Frist told syndicated radio host Tony Snow, who had asked if he would guarantee the report's release. "I'm pressing the conferees on the supplemental bill to take that amendment out," the Republican leader added.

Frist was referring to a rider attached to an Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill by Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., that will fund government operations after September 30 - but will defund Barrett's probe and prevent the publication of his report.

Dorgan's rider will reportedly bury charges that key officials in the Justice Department and the IRS abused their power by targeting political opponents of Bill Clinton.

Writing on his Web site, Snow said, "those charges — not the Cisneros case — have served as the focal point of Barrett’s investigation for the last several years."

At least a dozen Clinton scandal witnesses – including Sexgate accusers Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Elizabeth Ward Gracen and Juanita Broaddrick – were targeted by audits during the 1990s.

Conservative groups critical of the Clinton administration were also audited, including the Christian Coalition, Citizens for a Sound Economy, the Freedom Alliance, the Heritage Foundation, the NRA and others.

Most of the suspicious audits took place when the IRS was run by Margaret Milner Richardson, a longtime friend of Sen. Hillary Clinton from their days together at Yale Law School.

"If Republicans have the guts to go through with this, I'll be surprised."

To tell you the truth, Doc, I can't take anything Frist says on behalf of the GOP seriously.

The GOP is the Party of Eunuchs.

I would love to see this IRS audit scandal exposed. If they do it properly, it could take the Clintons down. (Wishful thinking)

Can an x-president be impeached? (To , at least , strip him of his pension and secret service protection)

They don't. This isn't any different I'm afraid... They have shown over and over again that they are terrified of any kind of justice.

That said, I agree with you. I'll be surprised too, but I'm tired of getting my hopes up.

Can there be ANY doubt, that the Clinton "administrations" were a criminal enterprise ---- managed by soulless, corrupt, incompetent, power drunk leftists ---- and Hitlery was the "Godfather"?

Can an x-president be impeached?

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

Considering the fact that former presidents are still afforded the use of the title "president" and given lifetime pensions as well as other financial benefits, I would think that based on the way I read this (and granted I'm no Constitutional scholar) that yes a former president could be impeached. It is also interesting to note that the Bent One signed legislation giving all presidents who follow him Secret Service protection for only ten years after leaving office insted of lifetime protection (though this will almost certainly be changed back in light of the War on Terror).

It seems pretty clear that this report could sink Hillary. That's where the real damage will be.

Even faithful (i.e., mentally sick) Democrats have a problem with the IRS targeting people for audits, based on their political beliefs.

What do you want to bet that report will disappear? This is probably why Hitlery is in the Senate; so that she can keep a sharp eye out to contain all she and Booba's criminal activities.

I disagree. Democrats have no "political beliefs". Only what will benefit them TODAY.

I agree. From what I've seen lately (since his heart surgery), BJ is possibly in much worse health than we know. And for all of the hype, I don't think he ever has a real chance of being Secretary-General of the UN (the Third World leftists truly do not want ANY American in that position). Hitlery is, IMHO, the biggest threat to America right now, and unlike BJ she does not really have his "teflon" qualities or charisms (remember that even politicians who were sworn political enemies of BJ often said that on a one-on-one personal basis he was a very pleasant person, something that is never said about the Hildabeast).

That's not the point!!

The point is the actions of Kerry and Dorgan ARE a GROSS ABUSE OF POWER.

First we have Reid writing legislation for PERSONAL PROFIT, and then we have Kerry and Dorgan writing legislation to HIDE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.

JUST HOW MUCH LOWER INTO THE GUTTER ARE THESE PUKES GOING BEFORE THE PUBLIC FINALLY DUMPS THEM IN THE TRASH.

Thanks for pointing that out, I was so focused on the Klintoons I overlooked that crucial point.

I believe WorldNetDaily was also audited because Clinton didn't like what was being said about him.

Well .. you're asking Frist to do something I'm pretty sure he's not allowed to do.

Just because he's Majority Leader, I don't think he has the authority to just strike an amendment from a bill - I don't think it works that way.

"I disagree. Democrats have no "political beliefs". Only what will benefit them TODAY."

I meant it the other way - that the Republicans get targeted because of their political beliefs (i.e., conservatism).

Anyway, the Dems do have political beliefs, and in a nutshell, they would like to see this country taken down a few notches in the world. They cannot stand us being alone as the only superpower - which is why they armed China.

They really don't think there's any consequences in supporting our enemies, because they think we're invincible.

Yes, they Dems do have political beliefs, and that is why they must be DESTROYED politically.

I've always said that Clinton was the Democrats' answer to Richard Nixon.

The Clintons make Nixon look like a choir boy.

Nixon was mostly threats without action. X42 was silent action.

I want to know which Republicans voted for this amendment. I have been looking at the Library of Congress site and haven't been able to find it - yet.
