Riverside County sheriff's officials are investigating why deputies failed to find the body of a UC Irvine student near the spot where his car crashed into a ditch outside Norco on Sunday morning. His parents found the body, more than 10 hours after deputies left the scene.
"The sheriff is going to conduct a comprehensive review of the entire incident to look at all the actions that were taken," said sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Earl Quinata. "We are dealing with the loss of a loved one here, and we want to make sure we do everything to correct for any future situation."
The parents of 18-year-old James Walsh said they were angry and confused about why their son had not been found sooner, and wonder whether he could have survived had deputies succeeded in their search.
Rick and Jeannette Walsh of Corona said they followed a debris trail from the crash site to their son's body in the brush less than 15 feet away.

Er.. tragic.
Doughnuts and coffee are probably involved somehow.
Explanation: You should have taught your son to wear a seat belt.
I'm speechless
"they found their son cold and bruised, lying face down in plain sight with his driver's license mysteriously placed on his back"
WTF??
Sounds like a lack of effort. Just another example of shoddy police work. I will leave it at that.
Are you thinking that maybe his body was placed there after the cops left?
I would say so..
Some bum rifled through his wallet and kept on truckin'.
Why didn't the cops bring out a dog - seems like a slam dunk? They must have assumed he was intoxicated and wanted to flee the scene?
Bizarre is right.
How terrible for the family, who has to wonder "what if?".
So9
Uh..

Reminds me of a local case of a missing hiker. A local college professor went on a hike in the hills just outside of town one winter. He didn't return home at the proper hour, so the wife called the police and the games began.
It was a big local story because it involved an experienced hiker of some reknown mysteriously disappearing. The mystery deepened when all the local constabulary and emergency search teams failed to find him after a couple of weeks. The public even got involved to no avail.
I noticed the problem on one particular newscast and wasn't surprised they didn't find him sooner. The news clips showed the search teams walking side-by-side up well-worn mountain trails, looking at each other as they yakked up a storm about Little Jimmy's latest accomplishment.
The good professor was finally found come spring thaw. His body was found 10 yards away from his last known position (he had left a map at home), having fallen down a small draw, (probably) hit his head and died on the spot.
Road rage, to the extreme?
Around '97 a guy left a Vermont bar and was never seen again. Multiple searches for weeks turned up nothing.
The Spring thaw came and he was found a few feet from the backdoor of the bar where he was taking a piss and fell face forward into a drift. The blowing snow covered him up that night.
when the case came to trial, the defendent pleaded guilty and one of the stipulations was that he had to lead the police to a certain woman that was apparently killed...
he got into the police car and took them all back to his house, where the body was buried right below his window, not very deep.....
