Mistresses even predate chinese civilization. The only place it is relatively uncommon is the USA.

No, it's traditional.
Officials have kept concubines for thousands of years.
It's just the Han going back to their "roots".

Shady businessmen say that, to buy officials, a pretty woman is more effective than money. Hmmmm...wonder what Voinovich's type is? ;)

95% of CORRUPT officials?
So what's up with the other 5% of corrupt officials? I know... they lied about it.

Pretty common deal really. No surprises here about this.
The most coomon thing for a Taiwanese businesman doing business on the mainland is for him to pick up an "ee tai tai" or a "bao ern nai."
The first is if he marries her (it doesn't matter if he's already married on Taiwan), the 2nd is if he aquires her just for fun.
My Chinese translation is not too good, but thats it phoenetically.

I don't know if it's the same in South Korea, but in China..many of the "men" have mistresses.
I can't even count the number of times that I've been wined and dined only to have the companionship of a beautiful young girl offered as part of the evening. When I explain that I'm married...they laugh tell me this is China......
