You know that a show has been around a long time when they start measuring milestones in episodic increments of 50. But it's understandable that "The Simpsons" should want to make a big deal out of hitting 350 episodes with this Sunday's installment.
As the legendary Fox series wraps up its 16th season, the denizens of Springfield are wading in some uncharted prime-time waters. When executive producer Al Jean boasts that "The Simpsons" "just enjoyed the best 16th season of any comedy ever," that's because no other comedy has ever made it this far.
How many episodes is 350? More than the combined total of "Seinfeld" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." "The Simpsons" will pass "Dallas" (357 episodes) on the all-time series list before 2005 is out. Then it takes aim at the only two comedies to have produced more segments: "My Three Sons" at 380 episodes and "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet" at a somewhat astounding 435.
Can "The Simpsons" really make it to 435 -- a feat that would require the show see a (gasp) 20th season?

Ay Caramba!
Go Bart GO!
I can't imagine a Sunday without watching The Simpsons.
I would like to see them keep going with new seasons for another 50 years.
This show stopped being funny about 6 years ago, sadly.
I sorely miss Futurama.
I think they should end the Simpsons. It is getting bad.
At least The Family Guy is coming back.
One of the greatest lineups ever would be:
King Of The Hill
The Simpsons
Malcom In The Middle
The Family Guy
Futurama
That would be awesome.
That's something, but Futurama was king, *sob*.
Stewie is Bart Simpson, Charles Manson, and Omar Sharrif rolled into one.
No way. Arrested Development is horrible, especially when compared to the other shows that it follows.
'The Simpsons' is one of the few thing DHs records with his TIVO. We watch a re-run episode or two before we fall asleep each night. They never fail to make me laugh.
I agree that the newer episodes of the past few years are not as funny, but the old ones are some of the best satire around. Even my sort-of-Liberal DH laughs at the mockery of the Libs, so it's got to be spot-on. :)
To bad the show has been nigh unwatchable for about the last two years.
I think AD is brilliant, but it is so quirky I can understand why it would turn some off. There are some things that fly by quickly, in the background, and those are what put me on the floor.
One of my favorites was when the young son had just been dumped by his girlfriend and was walking home, and the "Peanuts" sad music was playing. There was one quick shot where the boy walked past a big doghouse with a dog sleeping on top of it. No comment, no lingering on it... if you blinked, you missed it.
Loved it!
Me too. In fact, Futurama is one of my kids' favorite shows and is always in the van's dvd player when we go anywhere.
I've never really gotten into King of the Hill or Arrested Development. I do miss Futurama, Andy Richter and Red Dwarf though and can't wait to watch Family Guy again.
