The Gipper - (from today's edition of The Federalist Patriot)
THE FEDERALIST PATRIOT ^ | APRIL 25, 2005 | Ronald W. Reagan

THE GIPPER

"When it's written, the history of our time won't dwell long on the hardships of the recent past. But history will ask...Did a people forged by courage find courage wanting? Did a generation steeled by hard war and a harsh peace forsake honor at the moment of great climactic struggle for the human spirit? ...The answers are to be found in the heritage left by generations of Americans before us. They stand in silent witness to what the world will soon know and history someday record: that in its third century, the American Nation came of age, affirmed its leadership of free men and women serving selflessly a vision of man with God, government for people, and humanity at peace. ... For the West, for America, the time has come to dare to show to the world that our civilized ideas, our traditions, our values, are not -- like the ideology and war machine of totalitarian societies -- just a facade of strength. It is time for the world to know our intellectual and spiritual values are rooted in the source of all strength, a belief in a Supreme Being, and a law higher than our own." --Ronald Reagan

I hope that we can honor Ronald Reagan's memory, keep the faith, and persevere against the new islamofascism with the same steady vision that he projected.

RWR was "Da Man." He kicked Quaddafi in the teeth and stared down the USSR until they blinked. There are too many good things to list in a post.

You are SO RIGHT. I miss Ronald Reagan more every day. As another FReeper said in a post about a week ago, "He was a 1,000 year man. Men like that only come along that often."

Maybe we'll be fortunate, and have a leader of his stature to guide the country through these very ominous times. In a way, we also need a "Churchill." I think it's fair to say that had there never been a Winston Churchill, England might very well have been conquered by Hitler's forces..........and then what would have happened?

Without the UK as a supply and operations centre, all of Europe would have gone dark. Also, the UK was the gate through which military aid to the USSR passed. No UK; no aide to the Soviets. Germany would have at least taken Soviet territory west of the Urals. Over time, who knows.

Ronnie (G-d love him) and Maggie gave a name to communism and that name was "evil." They were verbally pilloried for it, but they were very correct in their assessment. May The Reagan Generation (my generation - a.k.a. Gen X) produce another RWR!
