One visit to the Skeller and you'd understand the whole Rolling Rock thing.
The Skeller and Penn State actually MADE Rolling Rock what it is today. They sold 7 oz ponies for years (see above history). Once back in the 80's, a PSU Grad was doing the main display window at Macy's in NYC and decided to put Rolling Rock ponies in the hands of the manequins (Gee, where did she get THAT idea??).
Overnight, it became the yuppie beer of choice in Manhattan bars and it's never looked back.
Personally, I like the beer. I buy it here in FL by the keg for my tapster. It's not light, not heavy, not cheap, not expensive. It's just right.
Is it OK with you that I actually like Rolling Rock?
If I had my choice, I'd drink Stella Artois, but it's a bit expensive by the keg ($125+).

Don't know when it started, but it was a tradition when I was there in the early 80s. Go to the rat cellar and get a case of rocks. Can't remember the cost, but it was dirt cheap.

Um, no. Hahahaha. Just kidding. I've only had it a few times and I'm not a fan but I really don't care what anyone drinks as long as they don't screw with my drinks. I was just screwing around. If you have one tapped tonight, have one for me.

And speaking from personal experience, even in such cases, one's rate-of-consumption rises, not falls. What a bonus.
I spent MANY hours in the 'skeller and the Phyrst 1971-6. I moved into the Vets' House on Nittany Ave. in 1975, its prime attraction was the 5 keg cooler and cheap rent ($40/month). The Vets' House came down sometime after that. The last time I was up there, only the front sidewalk remained. Probably an electrical fire. We usually had several of those per year.
My favorite at the time was a Genesee Dark brew. Ah, so many brain cells ago!

I'm still trying to market smart pills but since rabbits were put on the endangered species list, it looks like an uphill battle.
It's bordering on criminal. I can only hope that they will change their minds. Also, I have to wonder if Graham Spanier didn't have something to do with this. He and the Skeller have been at odds for years. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if this freak show University President of ours sold this to Labatts as a way to curb "binge drinking."

Ah, Genesee! I liked the Genesee cream ale. This thread sure is bringing back memories.
You know, I often wondered why this cheap, bland beer all of sudden got so popular in my usual haunts in those days. Read FreeRepublic everyday, you always learn something new.
