Nobody is born evil – nobody – but they lives are shaped by their environments.

So you are not a believer in Original Sin? You sound like one of our college professors.

Therefore why not challenge the House of Saud instead of pussy footing

This is what gets me about the left. The wax superior about being people of peace then they demand war when it's not necessary.

My eyes. My eyes. Paragraphs are our friends. I will read your post if you will kindly break it into paragraphs. Thanks!

And I have a bridge to sell you, Mr Gardner! They turned on an apologist for them and he still doesn't get it!

Exactly. These people walk around in hostile territory like they're omnipotent, not knowing that they're actually benefitting from the tough work done by Brits over 100 years ago.

The man gets shot six times and he still don't get it.

When I first got to Kuwait the Army gave us an in country brief one thing they stressed was that if you witness an accident do not under any circumstances render assistance. Because if the person dies from the accident it was Allah's will, if you assist your interfering with that will. Having said that, I suspect the lack of compassion from the Saudis was more more racial and they didn't care about Gardner because he was a non Muslim.

So now who is delusional?

I cannot possibly count the number of people here who have previously slated Islam and criticised its people for the most of bizarre of reasons simply for the fact that they fail to understand its truce teachings. Most people seem to believe that the ideology of Al-Qaeda and Ossama Bin Laden is the teaching of Islam and the Koran. People fail to realise that Bin Laden’s desires are essentially political and not religious and bear no resemblance to the true teaching of Islam and is a direct exploitation.

Surah 8:12 of the Qu'ran : ... I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: you smite them above their necks and smite all their fingertips off them.

Certainly sounds pretty clear to me. If I don't believe like they do, I am to be killed.

Do you refute this?

Seems like you only come on Free Republic to talk about Frank Gardner.

Shhhh! Irelander IS Frank Gardner. That's why he types without paragraphs... so nobody gets suspicious that he's a journalist!

It's amazing that not even a body riddled with six bullets and a colleague killed by a bullet to the head can open his eyes to reality. The terrorist who shot him at point blank range wasn't sneering at Rumsfield,Bush or Blair but the white western infidel who didn't deserve to live. He's still trying to justify the actions of racist and bigoted murderers who act out of total hatred. The only grievance of the radical muslim is his hatred of everyone who doesn't believe in his brand of Islam. Why can't these people admit that the world is facing another violent threat in the same image of the Nazi but with religion as its base?

"Not one of you have a clue what your talking about...you know nothing about the man"

I thought the article did a good job of showing his beliefs and giving us a "clue" about his ideals and what his thinking is in regards to his attackers.

I believe everyone here feels sorry for him and wishes him as normal a life as possible, but your missing the point. He's sitting there crippled for life and waiting for a little note of apology? After all he's been through and he hasn't learned a thing. And where I'm from thats called an idiot.

I think the people on this thread are laughing more at the fool's inability to recognize or understand the nature of the threat against all of us. The terrorists don't care about a reporter's self-presumed "fairness". They want to KILL him, you, me, and every other infidel - period. The guy's own bias precludes him from seeing the obvious. The terrorists happily use western media to undermine the west - until it is their turn to die.

You sound like a character from "Team America". He was in Saudi Arabia, and if this means every Saudi Arabian is a terrorist it says little about the closeness that America has with this country. I hope all American journalists know that fellow Americans think that they are fair game if they do their job in Saudi. Does this go for the troops too?

As far as compassion for the guy, I have very little - I'm sure he gets paid quite handsomely for what he does. I'm also sure his company (BBC, was it?) is quite happy to make lots of money off of his reporting. He knows the deal, just like any mercenary.

So you have little compassion for an innocent man who was shot because he gets paid for his job? So an American journalist killed in reportage is nothing to you? Nice ethics. As for him being a mercenary, you mean anyone who gets paid money in Arab nations is a mercenary? Did you say the same when American contractors were brutally murdered as they get paid for their job too?

Put things in reverse. If that were you or I lying there on the ground shot, he would happily stand over our bleeding bodies offering up his "take" on the story, but his "journalistic ethics" would not allow him to get involved.

You do not know the man so how can you judge his ethics? You probably have never even seen his face yet you can see into his soul? I wish I had your special powers.

He is no better than the people who stood around and watched him, except that he gets paid for it.

This is the worst yet. So he is bad man because he went to speak to someone in a foreign country and ended up in a wheelchair?

These reporters want to set themselves up as being above the rest of us - so be it, but why should anyone care overmuch when the natural result of their stupid choices happens?

I think the quote "these reporters" sums it up. You know less than nothing about this human being but you will judge him quite un-christianlike because of the actions of other people. Also if it wasn't for reporters going into dangerous areas to find information we would not be informed of world events. It seems you would prefer that.

So first of all you trust a left-wing rag like the Guardian to be objective, (this I haven't heard before on Freerepublic) and even more bizarrely to sum up a person's "beliefs"?!?

What are his beliefs then?

With the greatest respect my friends, you are all on the side of civilisation, but on this point you are all talking complete nonsense. How can you all judge this man, who is well known as a good human being and great analyst without ANY knowledge of what you are talking about?

I saw in the faces of the gunmen absolute hatred; they had pressed the button of violence and nothing I tried to say to them in Arabic was going to dissuade them.

As far as they were concerned I was a heathen, a western infidel who had come into their area and this was an opportunity to execute a westerner.

On one hand he says they didn't see him as the objective journalist he was, and the next paragraph he says they found "a miniature Qur'an of the kind Gardner often gave out as gifts."

So which is it?

I've never understood why many Brits and Irish think that most Americans care a rat's ass about the problems in Northern Ireland.

Well can you tell that to the Americans who donate money to the IRA so they can kill British children.

Between this thread and the thread about the Muslim cleric in Australia who said raping women who don't wear veils is ok, maybe today is not a good day to ask me this.

Concerning Muslims, the worse the Muslim the better the person.
