Actress and New York native Maggie Gyllenhaall makes some controversial remarks at Friday night's TriBeCa Film Festival.
Gyllenhaal was at the premiere of her movie "The Great New Wonderful" which opened at the festival Friday night. The film is set in the city about a year after September 11, 2001 and looks at New Yorkers' feelings after the attacks.
But while describing the movie, the Lower East Side native said the United States should share some of the blame for what happened that day.
"I think what's good about the movie is that it deals with 9/11 in such a subtle, open, open way that I think it allows it to be more complicated than just 'Oh, look at these poor New Yorkers and how hard it was for them,' because I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way and so I think the delicacy with which it's dealt with allows that to sort of creep in," said Gyllenhaal.
The TriBeCa Film Festival was started after the terror attacks to bring tourists and money back to downtown Manhattan.
Absolutely right! It's her ugly spirit that ruins the rest of it.
She may be pretty, but she's young and stupid.
Another know-nothing Leftist spouts off about things she knows little about and that she hasn't taken the time to think through: A perfect vacuous contributor looking to unload her cash for Democratic Party causes and candidates.
Gee. I thought they got killed because they were infidels, or supporters of infidels, and God (Allah) wants it done. - tom
The Pornographer: A Love Story (2000) .... Sidney
The Patron Saint of Liars (1998) (TV) .... Lorraine Thomas
This is the face of someone trying to be relevant and politically hip.
*LOL*!! Sorry..
She' an actress and in her real life....she's an actress.
Moral relativism 101
Sweetheart sometimes you sound alot smarter if you just SHUT UP!!!
you will drive yourself crazy seeking out entertainment or entertainers who are intelligent and/or conservative. Why do we bother as if these people's views are any more important that the idiot spewing forth his opinions in line behind us at the store. The ability to get the attention of a camera crew does not necessarilly correlate to a high IQ.
No, I am afraid she will never understand. Maybe she needs to be taken to Baghdad and walked through the afternmath of a suicide bombing. Then she can tell the Iraqis its partly their fault for being blown up. On second thought she would blame America. Still like her to put face in the gore and blood though.
If she had a been a conservative Republican saying something much more positive about the state of our nation, people all over this thread would be saying how cute she is.
I guess my point is her attractiveness or non-attractiveness is not the issue here.

1. I have never seen nor heard of this actress before.
2. She is obviously very ignorant.
3. Willful ignorance is not bliss.
"Famed director Sidney Lumet is shooting a film for HBO called Strip Search that will look into the abuses of peoples civil rights since 9/11, says a source familiar with the project.
"Glenn Close, Ellen Barkin and Maggie Gyllenhaal are among the stars of the show, which will run in three parts and will probably air this fall.
"Its inspired by real life incidents, examples of a sort of McCarthyism that has existed since the attacks, says the insider. Its about people who've been punished for saying and thinking things in a country where there's supposed to be freedom of speech and thought. There's no doubt that it will be controversial, given the level of emotions on this subject. "
The editors of the Sacramento Bee said the same thing within hours of the "event."
I bet other rat newspapers said the same thing. You see, we don't try to "understand" the rest of the world, the 9/11 attacks were partly our fault they said.
I bet Ms Gyllenhaall is a rat.
BTW, remember when some religious folks said essentially the same thing in terms of God's punishment for our wickedness? How awful to say such things, screamed the rat folks. The religious folks were roundly condemned by the same rat folks who agree with Ms Gyllenhaall and the Sacramento Bee.
