The girl's teacher videotaped her class that day as a self-improvement exercise. An attorney calls the arrest "absurd" and "excessive."

This little girl needs to have her behi... I know, I know, you can't touch a child. At least the police got a response out of her when she realized her actions had consequences she didn't like.
As far as the mother is concerned, she needs to get a grip on her child or that child is going to give her hell in a few years.
What's left? Harsh words? She ain't respondin' to that.
It's all carrot and no stick.
Why did Tanisha "need to stop?" The gave her no reason to. She was in complete control of two adults. She was leading them around, getting them to dance and weave with her. She did what she wanted with no consequences until the Police arrived.
The article did NOT mention the statement of the officer to Tanisha, He said: "Remember me? I told you and your mother I would have to put handcuffs on you..."
This is proof that she has done this before to the point of police intervention... and had received fair warning from an authority figure. It was necessary to maintain that authority that the promise made earlier be carried out.
Touching the girl, they said, would have escalated the situation.
The two educators "can't control what the children do, but they can control how they respond to it and, to me, they responded admirably," said Robert Egley, an assistant education professor at USF in St. Petersburg. "I give them an A-plus."
This is the thing I don't get. They are letting one kid disrupt the whole class and the teachers are praised for letting this one kid get away with murder. After watching the video, it is clear that this kid is an animal and the adults are letting her BE an animal. Disgusting.
A swift swat to the bottom at the beginning would have stopped this whole mess. Of course the teacher or principle would now be doing 10 to 20 if they had done that. In my day we would have been swated and that would have been that.
was the headline typed by a member of the Department of Redundancy Department?
Put the child in a room with nothing in it.Nothing! Of course, keep the video camera running. When a child wants attention this badly, rewarding her with the cops, etc is just stupid. of course, perhaps this child would be better served at home. Sounds like she's not ready for school.
What the hell kind of society have we become when we are handcuffing 5 year olds???? Jaysus!
Well, if the child doesn't respond to verbal warnings and swings when you try to touch it . . . how are you going to "put him/her in a room"?
Sooner or latter you have to grab an ear and drag the brat into another room.
For a teacher or principal to be cowering in fear of scolding a 5 year old because of potential lawsuits is pathetic. Its gotten out of control. Time to bring back "Big Bertha" (my high school coach's paddle).
"Spare the rod, spoil the child." Writ large in this case.
This little girl should have been physically restrained long before she made it to the principal's office.

Exactly, clearly this poor little girl had little discipline if any at home and absolutely no fear of those wimps at the school. That classroom teacher was pathetic. Sounded like a prozac teacher to me. The kid clearly had no fear of her and was behaving like a kid with no fear.
I also don't really understand why the cops did not scare her into behaving first or cuff here for a minute take her out of the cuffs and tell he if they had to come back they cuff would go on and stay on.
Isn't it amazing that all these adults can't stop a child's temper tantrum? The problem, of course, is that the lib'rals and trial lawyers have made a cottage industry out of bad behavior.
You would have been able to sit?
Man, you were lucky.
So they don't:
a)Lose their jobs
b)Get arrested for assaulting the child.
c)Get sued in civil court
Perhaps, where you come from, the administrators are allowed to actually discipline the child.
It is made clear in the second video that they basically are allowed only to keep her from hurting herself or someone else.
You can tell what helped the problem grow - just listen to the teachers. It's a bunch of liberal "we must protect the child's self esteem" crap.
50 years ago it would have been solved in two minutes and the kid would have thought long and hard about pulling the same stunts again.
Corporal punishment is still legal here in Indiana. It's just "against school policy" in almost every school I know of.
I really hate to burst your bubble, but police officers use cuffs to protect people from hurting themselves also.
I would suspect this was their reason.
Of course they could have called in the Animal Control and had her shot with a tranquilizer dart. ;)
Was feeling full of my self as a teenager, once. Told my Dad to 'F off' or 'Go F himself' or something along those lines.
........you ever seen the WB Cartoons where Daffy Duck gets hit with something and goes through a bunch of walls, leaving a Daffy Duck-Impression in each one? That's close, but not completely what happened to me.
With 15 or 20 ( or more.....) years of distance on it, looking back, I'd say that he was absolutely right. Hope my son has more sense that I did, though, so that I don't need to pull out a can of whoop-ass.
I still wonder about a school admin that can't handle a 5 year old having a tantrum, though.
