Federal Order May Require Mandatory Psych Screening and Medication of School Children By E.F. Winslow 4-22-05

There is a new, invasive government program coming to your state that is so Orwellian that it is seems beyond all belief. It potentially involves the mandatory mental health screening of all children in the state, and could actually mean that minors would be prescribed behavior-modifying drugs in school against their parent’s wishes. And to make the parallel to Orwell complete, the program is called the “New Freedom Commission on Mental Health”. The New Freedom Commission on Mental Health was created in 2002 by Executive Order 13263, but the recommendations and implementation of the program are just being released now. One of the six goals of the Commission was to make “early mental health screening, assessment, and referral to services…common practice”. This seemingly innocuous statement raised eyebrows with some in Congress, and Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) proposed an amendment that was prevent this bill from requiring mandatory screening and state-ordered medicating of children without parental consent. Last September, his amendment was defeated. He has reintroduced it this year as H.R. 181. ...

You really don't want school vouchers. That's the fed's back door into private schools. Frank Peretti wrote a novel about how that could happen. I forget the name, but it's worth reading. I spent that kind of money on my child's education too. Now that she's in college, I see how totally worth it it was. And so does she. You're doing the right thing.

I suppose we should all thank those who voted King George into office.

"2002 by Executive Order 13263"

I'm confused. I thought executive orders only applied to the executive branch of government. If the prez can just sign an order and get anything he wants then he's not a president he's a king.

>>I can't even imagine an agency doping my child. <<

This is not the end of this insult to the rights of both the parent and the child. It is an insidious destruction of liberty.

If a healthcare professional diagnoses your child as having a qualifying condition, the treatment plan (which is developed based on a professional 'standard of care'), indicates certain drugs should be administered to "address" the condition. Here the government regulations work hand-in-glove with tort law since any professional who fails to follow this standard must be prepared to defend why the standard should not be followed or else he may be liable for malpractice.

A parent who resists this recommendation could be found to be "abusing" the child by "denying" them "necessary" medication. After all, a healthcare professional is more qualified to make these decisions than is the parent. In some jurisdictions, this could result in children being forcefully removed from the home, placed in foster care and administered the indicated drugs.

Once your child comes to the attention of this "program", it will be difficult to become disentangled from its efforts to impose its will.

Some jurisdictions wisely will not take the law to its limits, others will push its limits. Apart from removing children from public schooling, and thus from being able to be "diagnosed" by pill-pushing educrats, parents must be very careful where their children go to school.

I would love for those politicians who support this to tell us that I am wrong in the eventual outcome of the normal legal and bureaucratic track laws like this take.

I looked into it when it first came up a while ago and I was surprised to find that it read just as people have interpreted it here. I have reserved judgment because of the many times I've jumped to conclusions that have been explained away by the president and those much wiser than I. I have not yet heard a satisfactory explantion, or any one for that matter, regarding this. I would like to hear a credible person in this administration address it.

It seemed odd this would get any where, but when people scream to have the government do everything for them, that's what they'll get.

You can't seriously believe this crap is in response to a public outcry!

BTW, anyone out there know of a way to relieve the cost of private school tuition for elementary kids in the state of Colorado? Surely there is a group trying to get school vouchers passed?

If you get your vouchers, you can kiss your private school goodbye. AND your children will be included in EVERY government scheme like this one.

You might as well leave your kids in the current government school instead of putting them in the NEW government school currently referred to as private.

That is what I'm going to do. Read it and look for answers. This sounds too much like propaganda.

Thanks, I will try to read up on this more.

While you've got your specs on check out 1984 and Brave New World if you haven't already.

Two wonderfully, frighteningly predictive books.

I beg you, strike this phrase from your speech and this attitude from your mind. Yield your soul to no man.

My soul is not yielded to any one. Yet, I also realize that I'm not the smartest and wisest person on earth. Before I come to conclusions on issues, I read and weigh all sides. I do that so that I know what's going on. This so opposes what I believe this president to be about that I want to hear more in the case that I have misinterpreted it. If it does say what it appears to, then I will not hesitate to condemn the president for a foolish action. But I wish to learn more about it first.

I'm still recovering from Splinter Cell

I'm sure it's a page-turner.

Actually I like Clancy's stories better after they're made into movies (he includes too much detail for me).

In this instance a book like this one actually may contribute to our slouch toward totalitarianism.

Such works tend to keep us in a perpetual state of fear and to increase our dependence on "leaders".

That's quite reasonable.

In your research I'm sure you'll find no "executive orders" regarding abortion, same-sex marriage, protection of our borders, exploding budgets, or monumental trade deficits.

In other words, talk is cheap (and politically very effective). I judge my elected politicians by their actions, not their words.
