The Archbishop of Canterbury is trying to get close to Pope Benedict XVI in order to stop the full scale inauguration of a worldwide Anglican Rite within the Latin Church.

Anglicans in the Traditional Anglican Communion have been is serious discussions with the Vatican for some time. The authority and orders issues have been chiefly resolved. Cardinal Ratzinger had been involved in the discussions which had JPII's blessing. Your prayers for the conintuation and eventual fruition of these discussions under Benedict XVI would be most welcome.

NathanZachary - Joseph Ratzinger is not himself a Benedictine. He spent time in a Benedictine monastery, but that is common among those of religious orders. Benedictines held western civilization together in the Dark Ages.

As a Benedictine myself, however, I would not say that this prophecy is true of the new Pope.

What's being discussed is uniate status sui juris. The Anglican-Use Liturgy would be the liturgy, but this would be full communion with Rome as a group, retaining the Anglicans' ecclesiastical structure and canons, whereas the current situation is on an individual parish by parish basis.

Speculation or do you know more than you have said? Is something about to happen with the TAC?

It's impossible to conjecture with any degree of certainty until it actually happens. TAC representatives were in Rome the week after Pope John Paul II's death. Discussions had been scheduled for some time and they did go on as scheduled, despite all of the other goings on that week. The TAC reps were given VIP access to St Peter's to pay their respects to JPII.

The TAC will soon be publishing a document on authority. Officially, it will be TAC's response to the final ARCIC authority publication.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but from what I'm hearing this is far from resolved. Can you provide something to back this up?

I believe that you are mistaken. The American Church (Episcopal Church of the United States of America) and the Canadian Anglican Church are on the verge of being tossed from the Anglican Communion. Arch Bishop Williams has refused to make much effort (at least overtly) to trump the more conservative members of that Communion in condemning the American and Canadian Churches. Many American Dioceses are on the verge of revolt against the ECUSA. I am an Episcopalian and like most folks in most churches, I have some disagreements with some of ECUSA's positions. I believe that Arch Bishop Williams is doing as well as any human can do to handle all that he has been given to do. In fact, when the issue of ordaining a homosexual bishop came up in the United Kingdom, Arch Bishop Williams got the guy to withdraw his name from consideration.
