LONDON, APRIL 21, 2005 (Zenit.org).- For the first time since the Reformation, the Anglican archbishop of Canterbury plans to attend the solemn start of a pontificate -- that of Benedict XVI this Sunday in Rome.
Lambeth Palace's press office revealed that Rowan Williams plans to attend the inauguration in St. Peter's Square. It said that the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity indicated its "great delight" that he will be attending.
The Anglican archbishop indicated that he will again be wearing the ring presented to his predecessor, Michael Ramsey, by Pope Paul VI and a pectoral cross presented to him by John Paul II.
Dr. Williams will travel to Rome on Saturday. Earlier this week, the archbishop of Canterbury offered his best wishes and prayers for Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger on his election as successor to Pope John Paul II.
"We wish Pope Benedict XVI every blessing in the immense responsibilities he is about to assume on behalf of Roman Catholics round the world," said Dr. Williams. "I look forward to meeting him and working together to build on the legacy of his predecessor, as we seek to promote shared understanding between our Churches in the service of the Gospel and the goal of Christian unity."
Williams and Benedict should BOTH go to Russia.

"The last of these prophecies concerns the end of the world and is as follows: "In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End." It has been noticed concerning Petrus Romanus, who according to St. Malachy's list is to be the last pope, that the prophecy does not say that no popes will intervene between him and his predecessor designated Gloria olivæ. It merely says that he is to be the last, so that we may suppose as many popes as we please before "Peter the Roman". Cornelius a Lapide refers to this prophecy in his commentary "On the Gospel of St. John" (C. xvi) and "On the Apocalypse" (cc. xvii-xx), and he endeavours to calculate according to it the remaining years of time.
This one is interesting as well:
Prophecy of St. Edward the Confessor Ambrose Lisle Philipps in a letter to the Earl of Shrewsbury dated 28 October, 1850, in giving a sketch of English Catholic history, relates the following vision or prophecy made by St. Edward: "During the month of January, 1066, the holy King of England St. Edward the Confessor was confined to his bed by his last illness in his royal Westminster Palace. St. Aelred, Abbott of Rievaulx, in Yorkshire, relates that a short time before his happy death, this holy king was wrapt in ecstasy, when two pious Benedictine monks of Normandy, whom he had known in his youth, during his exile in that country, appeared to him, and revealed to him what was to happen to England in future centuries, and the cause of the terrible punishment. They said: 'The extreme corruption and wickedness of the English nation has provoked the just anger of God. When malice shall have reached the fullness of its measure, God will, in His wrath, send to the English people wicked spirits, who will punish and afflict them with great severity, by separating the green tree from its parent stem the length of three furlongs. But at last this same tree, through the compassionate mercy of God, and without any national (governmental) assistance, shall return to its original root, reflourish and bear abundant fruit.' After having heard these prophetic words, the saintly King Edward opened his eyes, returned to his senses, and the vision vanished. He immediately related all he had seen and heard to his virgin spouse, Edgitha, to Stigand, Archbishop of Canterbury, and to Harold, his successor to the throne, who were in his chamber praying around his bed." (See "Vita beati Edwardi regis et confessoris", from manuscript Selden 55 in Bodleian Library, Oxford.) The interpretation given to this prophecy is remarkable when applied to the events which have happened. The spirits mentioned in it were the Protestant innovators who pretended, in the sixteenth century, to reform the Catholic Church in England. The severance of the green tree from its trunk signifies the separation of the English Church from the root of the Catholic Church, from the Roman See. This tree, however, was to be separated from its life-giving root the distance of "three furlongs". These three furlongs are understood to signify three centuries, at the end of which England would again be reunited to the Catholic Church, and bring forth flowers of virtue and fruits of sanctity. The prophecy was quoted by Ambrose Lisle Philipps on the occasion of the reestablishment of the Catholic hierarchy in England by Pope Pius IX in 1850.

The Anglican communion is flying apart. The ABC is desperately trying to retain his relevance.

It didn't say -- it was just a line in a paragraph about the Pope in that front-page run-down of the news, with no further story inside.

You have the wrong person. You're evoking a bishop in the Episcopal Church USA, not one of the Primates.
Sorry, I don't think I did. (I got in from my trip pretty late last night.) I didn't see it in the FReepmail, nor in the ton of postings I receive every day.
The Anglicans in the Anglican "Communion" will not be seeing the light any time soon as the orders issue will almost certainly be a permanent impediment to visible unity with Rome.
Anglicans in the Traditional Anglican Communion have been is serious discussions with the Vatican for some time. The authority and orders issues have been chiefly resolved. Cardinal Ratzinger had been involved in the discussions which had JPII's blessing. Your prayers for the conintuation and eventual fruition of these discussions under Benedict XVI would be most welcome.
I immediately thought of a simian creature as well. I wasn't aware that "primate" had any religious connotations.
