April 21,2005 Will Chrysler soon carry the "Made in China" label? The world's fifth-biggest carmaker is trying to work out an agreement to build cars in China and export them to the United States. According to a company executive, DaimlerChrysler is holding the discussion with one of its Chinese partners. The decision on whether to go ahead is due in the second half of 2005.

so what ? name two things that aren't made in China now anyway.
And they wonder why their sales a falling...
hell name 4 parts of any car that doesnt have a component that wasnt already made in china anyway....
I am still going to get Chryslers whereever they are built because I have better luck with them than say Fords and Chevys....
Ohhhh now that's exactly what I want for Christmas!
A Chicom Chrysler! ROFLMAO
Is there anything Made in China that is worth a damn?
nooooooooooooo
1. M1 tanks.
2. Airliners.
Got a Seagate hard drive in your computer? If so, chances are pretty good that it was made in *China*.
Next question?
,,, as it happens, VWs are being made in Mexico and China. It's not payback, manufacturers are simply securing slave labour while they can. If China had unions the cars would be made in Nigeria or Zaire.
Their quality is improving though. Soon they will be like oddly-shaped Toyotas.
Should have read the article.
Oh boy...
Someone tell me what UAW thinks about this.
Ford, Chevy after Chrysler?
,,, the trade deficit says there is.
The China issue will be used by Hillary! to utterly destroy the moronic Republican party of Big Busine$$.
She is going to run on an immediate 25% tariff on the Chicoms and will EASILY be elected in 2008.
Guaranteed.
Millions of swing voters and even Republicans will vote for her.
And the Stupid Party deserves getting crushed.
Who in the world wants Chinese cars!?
Everything made in China falls apart a few years after purchase.
What's not funny is the jobs that will go with it, including those in the steel industry, the parts industries, the glass industry, and on and on. The engines are already built in Japan, but imagine the economic devastation in the American city(ies) and households where this corporate decision will tentatively wreak havoc from loss of tax revenue and basic income for thousands. Last time I checked, Detroit was NOT a thriving metropolis.
And, oddly enough, a growing number of Japanese cars and trucks. When a Japanese company builds a car in the US, they tend to use mostly parts from US suppliers with the remainder coming from Japan.
Your car is 40-50 percent more expensive thanks to union labor. Building in China would allow car makers to reduce labor costs and 1) lower the cost of manufacturing the vehicle 2) spend the difference on meeting govt. mandated changes in emisions, etc.
