GRAHAMSVILLE, New York, April 21 /U.S. Newswire/ --
William A. Brenner, a previously unknown attorney in Sullivan County, New York, is currently the Republican Party's top candidate for New York State's 2006 Senatorial election against Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Mr. Brenner's lightning-fast rise to prominence in the Republican Party has many experienced politicians and power brokers asking, "Who is William A. Brenner and how on earth did he get this popular?"

Mr. Brenner, 64, announced his candidacy for Senate on March 31st, 2005, in a letter to various New York State Republican and Conservative Committee Chairmen. Since then, he has become a curiosity in political circles and a media darling among New York papers, television and radio stations. He is a particular hot topic in internet 'blogs' (chat sites). This week, the unassuming Mr. Brenner is featured prominently on the cover of the Village Voice, New York City's most influential alternative newspaper.

"It's flattering, really," said Mr. Brenner from his Grahamsville, NY, law office. "I always believed my ideas for improving New York's economy would resonate, but I never dreamed the response would be this big this fast."

Mr. Brenner's popularity may have less to do with the economy and more to do with a unique strategy, previously unheard of in the big-money, high-profile world of New York politics. According to David Eric Brenner, Deputy Communications Director for the 'Brenner for U.S. Senate Campaign' (also William A. Brenner's son), "As strange as it sounds, the Republican candidate who will have the best chance to unseat Hillary will be a relative unknown - a humble, straight-shooting, man-of-the- people who wears his heart on his sleeve and cares more about the well-being of New Yorkers than anything in the world. That's Bill Brenner."

The 'everyman' strategy seems to be paying off as experienced politicians shy away from an election commonly viewed as impossible to win. According to Westchester County District Attorney, Jeanine Pirro, a campaign against Hillary Clinton would be the equivalent of a political "suicide mission". Mr. Brenner agrees with Mrs. Pirro's assessment, but notes one important exception.

"Senator Clinton has the money and connections to steamroll over any polished, professional politician the Republicans throw at her," said Mr. Brenner. "Who is the only person she can't roll over? Which candidate would be the chink in her armor? The answer is the candidate who thinks little of money and connections. The one who simply, honestly and passionately talks to the people of New York about the fundamental issues that affect their daily lives."

Mr. Brenner cites the unlikely victory of former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura as an example of what happens when an "unpretentious, regular guy" speaks directly to the people about their true needs and goals.

Not a complete political novice, Mr. Brenner was recently the 2004 Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in New York's 22nd Congressional district, an election he lost to five-time incumbent democrat Maurice Hinchey. He financed that campaign with personal funds, although he acknowledges that the 2006 Senate race will require far greater capital, infrastructure and teamwork.

To that end, Mr. Brenner met on April 8th with Stephen Minarik, New York State's Republican Chairman, to discuss his fundraising efforts and the overall Republican platform. During the closed-door meeting, Mr. Brenner stressed that, no matter what, his most important issue/goal will be to improve New York's lagging economy.

Mr. Brenner received a B.A. from St. Lawrence University in 1962, and a J.D. from New York University of Law in 1965. He worked his way through college and law school, at which time he was a member of the Cement and Concrete Workers Union Local 18A. He is a long-time member of the Grahamsville Volunteer Fire Department and a certified Emergency Medical Technician. As a volunteer, he worked at Ground Zero and donated his legal services and expertise at "Pier 94", where he coordinated legal assistance for 9/11 families. Mr. Brenner has three children, two grandchildren, and a 'trademark' dalmation dog which regularly accompanies him on campaign stops - to the amusement of children, families and political admirers.

I hope he's a saint on earth, literally. Because even if he pulled wings off a fly as a kid, Hitlery and her goons will use it against him.

I wish him luck, and tons of patience and courage!

Mr. Brenner's lightning-fast rise to prominence in the Republican Party has many experienced politicians and power brokers asking,

The fact that no kown Republicans want to take on Hillary is proof that this guy.. who ever he is.. is certainly a sacrificial lamb.

Defeating a liberal senator up for reelection in a liberal state is next to impossible. It just does not happen.

Defeating Hillary will be about as difficult as beating Rush Limbaugh in a Rush Limbaugh look alike contest.

Ah, already, the 'moderate Republican' crawl-in-a-hole-and-give-up 'strategy' rears its head.

*Sigh*

So, was Herself out soliciting "opponents" to be set up as straw men in the upcoming Senatorial contest? This guy has gone tilting at windmills before, against Democrat Maurice Hinchey in the 22nd Congressional district. Before 2004, NOBODY had heard of him at all. Was he a Republican or Conservative then?

Inquiring minds want to know.

According to the Republican establishment, most conservative candidates are doing nothing but 'tilting at windmills'.

Unfortunately, it is generally a self-fulfilling prophecy, since they hold the pursestrings.

Mr. Brenner, if he is successful in the primary, probably will experience what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the ping. I've never heard of this guy before, either. Then again, Rep. Lazio wasn't that well known in NYC before he ran either.

Looks like Hillary! isn't going to face any real opposition from the Republicans this time. It's a real shame.

He lost 67%-33% in the 22nd Congressional Race (New York). I predict Hillary wins this one.

" Defeating Hillary will be about as difficult as beating Rush Limbaugh in a Rush Limbaugh look alike contest. "

Analogy Alert! Analogy Alert! With LIBERALS voting on the appearance of Rush Limbaugh, any candidate with horns, fangs, and hooves would win over the lovable fuzzball....

Yes. I saw him in the Village Voice on line.

Let's see if red county New York might "shock the world" a la Cassius Clay on Sonny Liston.

I fried ants with a magnifying glass when I was a kid....I guess I can't run for the Senate.
