Breaking News Earth Day begins with truck hitting students

Updated: 3:13 PM

The Roanoke Times

Earth Day celebrations at Virginia Tech began inauspiciously Thursday as a truck accidentally ran over two students involved in the event.

The students, identified as Richard Shadrach, 18, and Kathy Murrill, 20, were transported to Montgomery Regional Hospital and released after treatment for minor injuries. Shadrach suffered bruises above the right eye and Murrill sustained bruises to the arm, police said.

The incident on the campus Drillfield occurred as members of the Virginia Tech Environmental Coalition were using a university-owned truck to set up for an Earth Day Fair. The driver, Tech senior and group president Aaron Barr, apparently did not notice two people who had participated in a university-sanctioned Earth Day campout and were still lying on the Drillfield grass.

I am not wishing misery, or injury, on anyone, but I sure wish it was a Hummer or another gas-guzzling big ol' truck.

I mean, just to complete the irony and enrage these activists even more.

The president of the Environmental Coalition on Earth Day drives a truck onto a grassy field and runs over two people.

What's wrong with this picture?

It's a big truck. Universities don't buy little trucks. Of course, the message today will be how cars and trucks are HARMFUL to us.

...the recent phenomena of SUVs attacking humans appears to be spilling over to the closely related species, "TRUCKS"

...scientists are puzzled over the inexplicable behavior of either type of vehicle, citing long-term maintenance programs and warranties by manufacturing concerns and the explosion of lubricating facilities that have sprung up around the nation for the comfort of said vehicles...

Why weren't they driving a honda prius or a Honda insight?
They could haul a t-shirt and maybe 7 paper cups in one load.

I thought to get in the spirit of Earth Day people were supposed to hack up their girlfriend, stash her in a trunk, and run off to France.

But the truck had remorse, even said "oops" as it ran down two Earth Day celebrants. Only SUVs are evil.

Einhorn reference!

That guy is really a piece of work. Did they ever get him back here? Last time I saw him he had superficially cut his throat to keep from being extradited all the while crying that it was the French government's fault.
