"Round in chamber?" That's how you should carry a gun for self defense.

"Safety off?" Revolvers and many double action only pistols don't have manual safties.

"Firearm training?" Yep!

The biggest problem seems to be crappy holster was used. You gun should not fall out of your holster when you drop your pants. I wonder if in this particular case the officer was stupid enough to just stick the gun in his waistband.

A good holster should maintain retention of the firearm even in some unusual situations, dropping your pants to use the restroom isn't even an unusual situation.

The real key is that guns don't go off unless you pull the trigger. The gun should have remained in a holster which completely covered the trigger guard so that pulling the trigger unintentionally was impossible.

When the holster failed to do it's job, the officer should have let it fall. Modern firearms will not go off from being dropped a few feet even onto a concrete floor.

This officer was dangerously negligent in how he carried and handled his gun.

It is either really amazing you found that picture so quick or very strange you knew where to find that picture so quickly.

Police internal affairs is investigating.

Anyone out there think that if they shot up a restroom their employers would be the ones investigating them?

When i bought my holster, my "salesman" ;) if you want to call him that, told me i could be upside down and my gun won't fall out. :) :) I haven't been upside down, but it's a darn good holster for the price.

What movie was that from? True Lies?

Yes, this is a great scene from True Lies. One of my favorite movies.

This officer was dangerously negligent in how he carried and handled his gun.

Considering the end result, one could possibly make the case he was criminally negligent. The article wasn't too big with detail. Either way, he just landed the other guy a nice cash settlement

I imagine the gun going off twice made it pretty difficult to keep the "brown round" from cooking off in his drawers.

Officer Clancy strolled in with his Glock
He had forgotten to set the safety lock
It fell out of his pants
And simply by chance
He is lucky he didn’t shoot off his c***

There is no way any one will fire a revolver or double action only firearm twice accidently. Even once would seem a remote possibility given the length of trigger pull on most of them. Letting it drop would have been the safe thing to do. My bet is it didn't happen the way he says it happened.

AP story about cop gun mishandling: "One of the bullets nicked a bit of floor tile into the leg of a man who was washing his hands nearby. That man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment."

Presumed AP story about citizen gun mishandling: "One of the shots fired by the gunman put an innocent bystander in the hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove the fragments from his leg."

(Don't you just love the passive voice where the bullet is the actor, and the minimizing effect of the words "nicked" and "a bit" in the story!)

When Officer Duke had to sit in the stall
his weapon, it did take a fall
from the impact it did shoot
and with vigor he did scoot
and left his mess on the wall

I can see how it would be possible to fire two rounds from a Glock. The first round as your finger caught on the trigger, and if you're finger caught in teh trigger guard, the second round could have been from flinching when the first went off.

Possible? Sure. Just really, really unlikely.

I agree that the story sounds concocted to cover an even worse mistake.
