The black slate blackboards were removed from schools several decades BEFORE anyone was concerned with asbestos.

The black slate blackboards manufactured in Indiana were sufficiently radioactive that it was considered advisable to remove them from schools. Most black slate blackboards in schools in the United States were cut in Indiana.

BTW, up until AFTER the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki no one had many ideas about how human beings were affected by radiation. As knowlege of radiation effects grew it was a common practice to "ban" things found to be radioactive.

I found a site that gives you an idea of how little was known about radiation risk 50+ years ago. See: http://www.roger-russell.com/jeffers/radiumdials.htm

Keep importing until the Middle East runs dry, then start exporting and bring all our money home, plus some.

The President and the rest of the gov't has been busy since 9/11/2001. And Bush/Cheney still whipped Kerry/Edwards.
Democrats Hit Bush on Gas Prices, Energy Plan
Yahoo
Sat, Apr 23, 2005
U.S. Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts blamed the Bush administration's "failed energy policy" for the high cost of oil and called for a plan that focused on renewable technologies, energy efficiency and conservation rather than an expansion of oil and gas drilling in the United States... In early April, U.S. crude oil futures hit a record-high of $58.28 per barrel. On Friday, crude futures closed above $55 a barrel.
Bush Faces Hurdles on Energy Agenda
by Tom Raum
Sat, Apr 23, 2005
The House voted 249-183 last week for White House-backed legislation that would give tax cuts and subsidies to energy companies and open a wildlife refuge in Alaska to oil exploration... Critics also claim that Bush's energy bill does little to promote conservation or alternate energy approaches, and that he has done little of the lobbying of oil-country leaders that he promised during in his first presidential campaign... [I]ncreasing world demand for oil, particularly from fast-growing China, and lack of new refineries in the United States will exacerbate the problem for years.
Democrats: Bill Will Boost Gas Prices
by Lolita C. Baldor
Sat, Apr 23, 2005
The bill, which passed the House by a 249-183 vote, reflects many of President Bush's energy priorities. It would open an Alaska wildlife refuge to oil drilling and provide $12 billion in tax breaks and subsidies to traditional energy industries, including oil, natural gas, nuclear and coal producers... While this is the fifth time in four years the House has passed an energy bill, the measure has stalled in the Senate, and it's future there is still uncertain.
Just in case, Yahoo ran not one but three (and perhaps more) stories shilling for the Dims.

on 4/21/05 you stated that $2 per gallon wasn't too much to pay. What do you think of the price today and how fast it got there from last year? If it keeps going up that fast it will be $7 in 2010!

Actually, what I said was this:

"Bah, $2 a gallon for gas isn't that expensive. Use the rest of the world's oil while it's cheap, then tap it.

:-)"

I still wouldn't tap ANWAR or Utah with gas at it's current price (which is still quite a bit cheaper than many other countries).

Additionally, the cost at the pump isn't dependant solely upon the cost of oil per barrel, it is also affected by how fast we can process it into gasoline and distribute it, among other factors.

Currently I would look to build more refineries as well as increasing ethanol usage.

As for my opinion in 2010, you'll have to bump this post again in 4 years to find out my response.
