BALTIMORE -- The 11 News I-Team has obtained the rest of the story about what Joe Steffen, an Ehrlich appointee, said on a Web site concerning Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley's personal life.
I-Team reporter David Collins said the Democrats have used the postings to portray Steffen as a Republican dirty trickster and republicans said he was set up. Steffen communicated with a mysterious Web site user calling themselves MD4Bush and we have both sides of the conversation that was originally done in private.
The summer of 2004 sizzled with rumors surrounding the personal life of O'Malley and Steffen got caught up in it by discussing the rumor publicly on the conservative Web site, freerepublic.com. Steffen resigned after The Washington Post exposed him.

Today's Sun has a similar
article, by "A Sun Staff Writer":
Online postings add angle to Steffen flapMD4BUSH writer appears to bait ex-Ehrlich aide
Computer messages revealed yesterday show another side to postings on a conservative Web site that sparked a firestorm of accusations between Democrats and Republicans and the resignation of longtime gubernatorial aide Joseph F. Steffen.
Steffen was forced to resign by Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. after acknowledging to a reporter that he had written online, under the computer pseudonym "NCPAC," about spreading rumors on the conduct of Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley.
Steffen made the comments in exchanges with someone using the name MD4BUSH, whose identity remains a mystery. After the controversy began, MD4BUSH posted exchanges with Steffen on the Web site www.FreeRepublic.com and underlined some of Steffen's responses for emphasis.
But other parts of the online exchanges, reported yesterday by WBAL-TV and posted on the station's Web site, appear to show that MD4BUSH prodded Steffen into talking about the rumors, and that at one point Steffen advised against attacking O'Malley's personal life.

Although WBAL and the Baltimore Sun may not have had both sides of the NCPAC/MD4Bush Freepmails, the
Washington Post has both sides of the conversation. One of MD4Bush's "my dentist" questions were printed in a February 11 article.

at one point Steffen advised against attacking O'Malley's personal life. This actually seems to be the news in the article. I guess it should have been the lead.

Geeze, FR has a privacy policy with its members. Unless Jim is served he can not ethically make public md4bush's ID.
Think about it - you could be next.

If I did what MD4BUSH did, then I would deserve to be next. I see nothing in the privacy policy that allows the forum to be used for RAT political attacks. Ethics do not include covering for liars and cheats. That is what the newsies need to learn. Their continued silence makes them complicit. Call it the Bob Holtzman rule.

By looking at the name MD4BUSH and reading his screed, I've determined that it's a Maryland resident, 4 years old, and he chose "BUSH" either to throw us off or because MD4Troll was already taken. Do with it what you will.

These e-mails couldn't be to private if everyone knows what's in them. And it sounds so much like a nosey news station, etc. to do just that. Snoop.
