THE BOLTON SCANDAL [Rich Lowry] The head of the firm, IBTCI, that was involved in the Moscow incident, when Bolton allegedly chased and threw things at Melody Townsel, has written a letter to the foreign relations committee about the controversy. Weve posted the whole thing (its roughly written), so you can judge for yourself.
Here is a key passage: To the best of my knowledge, Ms. Townsel had limited contact with Mr. Bolton, who at the time she claims was hostile to her, was working on another project for IBTCI in Moscow (Healthy Russia 2000). Ms. Townsel's recollection of what transpired, ten years later, is impossible to square with the fact Mr. Bolton was not engaged by our firm to have any contact with her on any issue related to her activities in Kyrgyzstan. In fact, later Mr. Bolton became our legal counsel to represent our interests before the U.S. Government in response to Ms. Townsel's efforts to try to grab our contract. Her claims against Mr. Bolton make no sense but are consistent with her belligerent attitudes towards others.
In fact, Ms. Townsel's professional performance is central to understanding her behavior and her extreme hostility to anyone associated with our company. As a Team Leader, she attempted unsuccessfully to charge the U.S. government for disallowable costs. She became enraged and abusive when our Business Manager, Auditor, and Executive Vice President each questioned these activities/costs, The situation was so serious that we had to post an expatriate from Head Office to our project office in Kyrgyzstan to ensure that proper accounts were maintained as we bad lost confidence in her business and billing practices.
Her poor performance, treatment of other employees and attempt to take over our contract became issues; and thus I was required to step in and remove her from her position. Mr. Bolton's role with IBTCI was unrelated. to her activities at the time. At no time did we ask, or seek Mr. Bolton's intervention with her. I certainly did .not hear, contemporaneously; from any other employee in Moscow that anything occurred between Mr. Bolton and Ms Townsel in Moscow, Consequently, it is difficult to understand how Ms. Townsel could make such accusations with any veracity.
If, perish the thought, there was a Democrat president and a Democrat senate, and the minority Republicans attempted to mount a filibuster against a judicial appointment, do you really believe that the Democrats would hesitate to "go nuclear"?
There is little point in practicing "fair play" as a "favor" if one cannot expect it in return.
In truth, our best defense against such an eventuality is to never, ever allow the Democrats as presently constituted to return to power. Indeed, it's our only defense!
They won't have to...Frist will have pre-armed them.
You miss my point. Even if Frist doesn't, the Democrats will!
Re: "Respecting Fundamentals-Punching bag stunt oversteps partisan bounds," yesterday's Editorials.
I'm one of the Mothers Opposing Bush, and my daughter attended Sunday's event in Reverchon Park.
While there, she made a new friend. She ate a red, white and blue cupcake. She bounced with the other kids in the Bounce House.
What she did not do-and all but two or three of the 30-plus kids who attended did not do-was play with the punching bag that one mother brought on her own initiative to the event.
Should the bag have been there? No.
Were our children encouraged to punch it? No, as your own reporter can attest. I'm dismayed by the photo you've published twice. It is grossly unrepresentative of the spirit of the play date that we attended.
You use the word "obnoxious" in your editorial, and decried strident partisanship. I couldn't agree more. Why? Because, as of yesterday morning, I'd received more than 250 hate calls. They used the "f" word, death threats, threatened visits to my home-and one threatened my child.
I joined the Mothers Opposing Bush because I want to protect my daughter from a future defined by an administration that has waged war and hampered health care and environmental concerns. I'm a sadder, wiser Mother Opposing Bush today-and, thanks to death threats, more committed than ever.
Melody A. Townsel, Dallas
I'm not missing anything. You're in "theory" mode, and I'm in the "here and now, it's gonna happen and bite us in the ass" mode.
And that, if we don't do something about it, now, we're going to spend the rest of this session with their teeth in our butt.
Following which, we risk losing seats (if not control) and becoming increasingly toothless ourselves.
It's called self-defense!
Yikes, for a second there I thought you were Wolfie. I was like WTH is Wolfie writing this.
Yep...way too many Woolf-deals around here
Ok here is a little disreprency

From Anti Bush Blog:
It took me years to get over Mr. Bolton's actions in that Moscow hotel in 1994, his intensely personal attacks and his shocking attempts to malign my character.
I urge you from the bottom of my heart to use your ability to block Mr. Bolton's nomination in committee.
Respectfully yours,

Which is it Dallas or Walnut Creek?
Why does it have to be a choice?
<< So what if he had a temper tandrum like Bill Clinton often did. >>
Couldn't happen.
Republicans are adult.
And the Cli'tons [Take your pick] are Psychopathologically-infantile Narcissists and are unfit for any office.
Not even that involving our nation's representation at the world's most systemically-corrupt and pathetically-Peter Principled bureaucracy!
[Where not even the room-temperature IQd Bill Richardson -- Havana's runner of cigars for profit and to the rest of the Cli'ton Crime Family and Peking's lap-boy -- was ever out of either his moral or intellectual depth]
Where the oppo-research on Melody?..like has she been hospitalized recently..
I think she made the entire story up out of whole cloth. It didn't make sense when we first heard it and it makes less sense now.
yup,...subpoena "that woman" [if Bubba can say it,well...]
Gee whiz. The old Juanita Broaddrick Play. Yup Dem's still have the playbook from the 80's and it still works.
