Thanks for posting this, I was wondering what happened to this woman.
I love that Ruth told the Dr. "Well, Bless your heart". We know what that means!

Lonnie Ruth met and talked with the doctor who had signed the forms admitting Magourik to hospice. "That doctor, the one that gave the release to put her in hospice, he acted like Dr. Kavorkian to me," she recalled. "He said, 'Well, if she were my mother I'd put her in the hospice. She's old, and she's not going to get well."
"And I thought, 'Well, bless your heart. You might be there yourself one day."
"Mommas, don't let your babies grow up to be doctors..."
Actually I wouldn't consider the man a doctor just a technician.

Makes you wonder if the granddaughter was doing what she sincerely thought was right, or if maybe she had some less then pure motives.
It will remain beyond me how witholding food and water can have any place in American health care.

She says she has no idea why Gaddy decided to place Magouirk in a hospice with orders denying her food and water. To kill Magouirk and legally get away with murder. Pure evil.

To kill Magouirk and legally get away with murder. Probably just a means to an ends.

Follow the money. Or, what's left of Magouirk's money, that is.

LOL. As I learned here on FR, "Bless your heart" is the proper Southern lady's way of saying "Go to H*ll."

It never ceases to amaze me, the people who do the wrong also do the snubbing.
I am so happy to hear Mae is doing so much better.

Really!? As a West Coast lady, I've used that phrase many times, meant sincerely. I hope no one ever took it the other way. :)Just don't say it in the South!
This was iterated, reiterated, and confirmed by bona fide southern lady FReepers on a thread a few months back. (Wish I could remember which one.)
I grew up in the Midwest, where language is taken literally; everyone is dead earnest all the time; and no one uses irony, ever.
So it was a surprise to me too.

And remember, that radio show tried to say Mae was an urban legend.
