Love your email. It's better to call if we can though. Ties up office staff, makes much more of a statement.

The phone line was busy when I tried 4 times today. I have the number by the phone, just waiting for 9 AM tomorrow.

I can't imagine Lowery posting something like that without having heard it from somebody reliable.

The Powell/Armitege thing really infuriates me.

LOL I had to go out and wash my car to cool off! I'm watching FNC now to see if they discuss it at the roundtable. Chafee must be wiping his brow in relief. I called the RNC today left a message, told them this is NOT why I left the Democratic party. That I was just getting ready to change my voter registration over and now what am I supposed to do and who do I vote for. I voted for the Republican party to get things done, not to cave the way they are. I won't vote Dem again but this is disappointing to me. I had great hope things would change with the majority we now have.

Looks more like political payback.

--snip--
"Well, not quite. The Club for Growth, a conservative group devoted to knocking off moderate Republicans they can't keep in line, ran an ad comparing Sens. Olympia Snowe of Maine and George Voinovich of Ohio to the French for their refusal to vote for the president's $726 billion tax cut. Snowe and Lincoln Chaffee of Rhode Island criticized Pennsylvania's Rick Santorum for gay bashing; Voinovich stiffed President Bush when he went to Ohio to push for his big tax cut and the president dissed Voinovich for advocating "little bitty tax relief." "

I think we can all agree on that; I went downstairs and told my mother to STOP sending money, too!

MORE BOLTON [Rich Lowry ]
An e-mail from well-informed source:

“A few tidbits...

1. The Senate went into a special recess so Bolton could be voted out. Voinovich knew this. He was on board. If he had a problem, he could have told Leadership before we went into a special recess.

2. Voinovich's reason for not voting for Bolton today? "I haven't been to the hearings and haven't heard all these allegations until now." Embarrassing.

3. Lugar could have solved this problem easily -- he could have asked Voinovich to abstain if he didn't feel prepared to vote. He could have told him that he was embarrasing him (Lugar) and all Republicans for blindsiding him. He could have recessed for 5 minutes so Republicans could have talked to him.

4. Lugar postponed for *three weeks.* He could have called another meeting tomorrow morning and given people time to get to Voinovich.

5. Chafee -- does anybody think he'll stick, now that Voinovich is giving him cover?”

Even if that presumption is correct, if seems a bit crazy to me to run ads against the guy NOT because he voted against the guy, but because he didn't vote for him TODAY. Nope, he wasn't in the hearings. Until I hear otherwise, I'll presume he had a reason for that.

Has Voinivich been so far out of it that he was not aware of two weeks of wondering if Chafee would desert and stall the Bolton nomination? Did it ever occur to him to warn Lugar that perhaps he was wavering so that Lugar could have held off the meeting rather than looking like an ass and listening to one RAT after another pounding on the Republicans?

No question about it, Voinivich stabbed Lugar in the back in front of a bunch of Democrats and on national TV. And for what? Interpersonal relationships????? Have you ever worked with a lazy, ignorant, backstabbing government worker? They need more than "interpersonal relationships". They need a kick in the ass and it sounds like Bolton gave it to one or more.

As people in our office were saying today - quoting Rush Limbaugh - the party of Teddy Kennedy that abused their subordinates by leaving them in a car underwater... the party that abused their subordinates by enticing them to have sex in the Oval Office... this is the party that comes up with the phony baloney excuse that Bolton's not nice to staffers as grounds to block him as U.S. Ambassador to the UN?

Yeah, right!

This is the Democrats recognizing that they can't do the frontal assault on Bolton's views on the UN because they might lose that war for the hearts and minds of the American public. So they instead go the character assasination route. And Voinovich falls for it. AMAZING!

I hope Bush takes the big step and just veotes all funds for the UN. Then we won't need an Ambassador.

I never thought Bolton or any loyal American could get the UN to stop being a corrupt organization full of American haters.

Might as well recognize it now and dump the whole thing.

What a giant waste of money, why don't you send me some. GV has not voted against the nomination yet, and he really hasn't been that negative yet.
