OK..here's what we know..Senate is in recess for the weekly party caucus luncheons. Supposed to resume at 2:15. on C-span 2.. The Foreign Relations committee is supposed to meet at 2:45 to vote on the Bolton nomination. Lugar has refused requests for a delay. Just before the Senate recessed, Reid objected to Frist's UC request for the Froeign Relations committee to meet today. Frist withdrew his request..
You need to bone up on parliamentary procedure. Had Lugar gone forward with a vote, Bolton's nomination would have failed in committee and been dead.
As annoying/disgusting as today's committee meeting was, Bolton lives to fight another day.
Voinovich is a disgrace to the Republican Party. Condolences to the Ohio FReepers.

There was absolutely nothing from the repubs or Bush like that supporting Bolton. Karl "the Genius" Rove probably to busy trying to make that 60 city SS tour look not like the joke it was destined to be.
It matters that the administration gets to put qualified people in place, but you need to think about the bigger picture and how the dem strategy is being honed to take on other issues or people that you might feel inclined to care about.

My very exact thought.
Why did Voinovich blindside his own Prwesident, and his own chairman, at the last minute? That's what makes no sense..If he wanted to delay..he could have told Lugar before the meeting , and Lugar could have given the Dems two more weeks, and looked statesmanlile and bipartisan doing so..
I'm writing Rush now. Voinivich especially needs to be torn to shreds. His constituents need to know about the backhanded traitorous stunt he just pulled.
I haven't for some time and won't, except now I'm going to put forth a concerted effort letting them know why.
Voinovich's office will hear from me as soon as the line isn't busy. So will the RNC senate committe..
What a complete embarassment. My daughter could have been more assertive. The RATS bullied and screamed and haranged...... and won.

Days like this make me completely sick of politics.
No matter how important the specifics of the post, the hearings demonstrated the minority Dems making complete monkeys out the Republicans. We put the Republicans in office to accomplish something, not to be outsmarted like a bunch of rubes.
If they are going to cave in on something like this, then you can be damn sure you will never see any judges confirmed. The sword cuts both ways. If they can't handle a popgun matter like UN Ambassador, they will surely fail when the stakes are higher.
They found the weak link on that committee....and they have blocked Bolton.....look for his name to be pulled.
Maybe he folded because he's looking for a job in Hillary's (shudder) White House?
Look for the editorial in tomorrow's NY Times praising the "statesmanlike" Voinovich..
yeah,... truth be told, I feel almost as bad now as I did on Sept 11th , and I live here in NYC , this is bad folks , very very bad
