Don't fall into that DU trap. Anyone of his age in Germany was required to serve. Only the historically challenged equate German soldiers with Nazi's (I'm not saying you are). The true Nazi's never faced their enemy.
To: N. Beaujon
The guy was a Nazi in his youth. I'm sorry, you don't escape that past. Aren't we the idiot. He never was a party member.

True enough. The liberal media spin seems to be that they hate him because he is orthodox and a loyal Catholic.

Reminds me when Reagan was elected, we heard all about the "zero factor" and how Reagan would die in office. Yeah, right.

You are officially live chow, for now.Good job. The liberals at DU are going nuts. Watch for an incoming deluge!

Catholics in name only, bent on the destruction of the church by forcing modernization. Thank GOD that has been avoided with the election of this Pope.
To: Brit_Guy
Surely you are not that ignorant! All youth were required to be members of Hitler Youth. Cardinal Ratzinger's membership was very short-lived and, in fact, after he was conscripted, he deserted from the German Army because he morally opposed the Ayrian philosophy and the German Government. His family also opposed Hitler.

As someone else just posted, they already have. I won't link to it since it is filled with their vile filth.

Do we have to throw around "idiot" and "jerk" (from another post). If you don't agree, tell him why. I personally have a problem with the Nazi connection, though I can see how many may have been forced into it.
In a thread dedicated to our new Pope, I don't think he would appreciate name calling.

The Holy See, the
world's smallest country (area: 0.44 sq. km., population: 921), now also has a new Chief of State.
Vatican passport holders must be a pretty exclusive club.
To: Howlin
Thank you Howlin for the kind words...I am so happy with our new Papa..

(And wouldn't Laz be the Al *Smith* of the Papacy?) Uh, no comment :-).
A story I like about (ex)Cardinal Ratzinger is how he met with a representative of the German Hutterites, the Amish-like European Christian group. The Hutterite leader addressed the Cardinal as "Brother Joseph," and some functionary tried to tell him the "correct" title, but Cardinal Ratzinger said, "He is perfectly correct - we are brothers."
