A Montgomery man fights back against a would-be robber... and wins.
Police say a deacon from Mount Olive Bapist went to the Normandale Compass Bank to deposit the church's offerings when a man approached him. The man then allegedly knocked the deacon down, took the money and started running away.
The suspect, however, was in for a surprise. The deacon was carrying more than a money bag to the bank... he was carrying a loaded gun. He began firing at the suspect, who slipped, fell to the ground and dropped the cash. When the robber went to retrieve the bag, the deacon threatened to shoot him if he touched it.
The suspect ran away. If you have any information that could help police identify and catch him, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 215-STOP. You can remain anoynmous and you may be eligible for a cash reward.
Police recommend in a situation like this when you have to carry a lot of cash to the bank that you always bring another person along with you.
Robbery needs to be a very dangerous profession.
That may be easier if the newspaper would actually INCLUDE A DESCRIPTION of the scumbag in question.
I wonder why one wasn't provided?
See thread about Ted Nugent addressing the NRA convention.
Only after dark, recon by fire per se !......:o)
During the daylight hours a fear for your life condition must apply.....
Like Sam Colt, or Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson. Gaston Glock is also good company and any of the Brownings are always welcome.
If it's a simple man or money question, then obviously we'd all choose the man.
What we have here though is someone (I hesitate to call him a man) who is willing to steal God's money with the use of force. Yeah, I know I'll sleep better tonight knowing he might be dead.
Here in the rural area of Mobile (Ala) County, a man had been repeatedly burglarized and awoke one evening when the burglar was already in his vehicle leaving...the homeowner put a 30-30 round through the back window of the perps vehicle hitting him in the head killing him instantly. The DA prosecuted...the jury acquitted.
Gotta love those Pistol Packing Preachers!
Good for the jury!
Hmm, seems like one could make a reasoned argument that in 2(B), "during the nighttime" applies only to theft, but not to arson, burglary, robbery or aggravated robbery, since in 2(A) the drafters made a point to use the phrase twice, but only after theft and criminal mischief. Be an interesting test case for a defense attorney.
Sec. 9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY. A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property:
~ ~ (1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and
~ ~ (2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:
~ ~ ~ (A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or
~ ~ ~ (B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; and
~ ~ (3) he reasonably believes that:
~ ~ ~ (A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or
~ ~ ~ (B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.
And this deacon is one reason why allowing concealed carry in churches is a good idea.
>>>>Police recommend in a situation like this when you have to carry a lot of cash to the bank that you always bring another person along with you.
>>Preferably someone who is armed and for sure an excellent shot!
Exactly what I was thinking!
>>OTOH, it helps to be walkin' with the Lord!
And the Lord tends to help those who are prepared!
Go Baptist Deacon!
Observer: Deacon, Deacon, I thought you were a man of prayer.
Deacon: That's right. I was praying I wouldn't miss.
Happy ending.
As for all the critics, We certaiinly have had to suffer an abundance of trolls on FR since the election.
We have strong stomachs. But come on guys. Go home to DU.
Property and life are connected. A person cannot live without property, so a thief is stealing part of someone's life by stealing their property.
This thief also showed total disregard for other people's lives by attacking the Deacon and knocking him to the ground, so assault was part of the robbery.
A sane society doesn't put a lot of value on people's lives that have so little regard for other people and their property.
Stealing a man's car could prevent him from getting to work. Loses his job, can't feed his family.
Property is life.
Besides, a robber uses the threat of taking your life to take your property, so the robber feels the car or cash is worth killing for. Its only the good folk who hesitate to equate their property with the life of the robber.
It's like that old saying about why they hang horse thieves..."so people don't steal horses."
Yep. The lowlife you take today, doesn't escalate tomorrow.
L
BWAAA HA HA! Hey city boy, where you from?!
I would say the local DA would be reluctant to prosecute a deacon if he wanted to keep his job.
