Astonishing But True! Replies to FR Poll on Potential POTUS

Posted on 04/16/2005 7:51:04 PM PDT by jla

"We know nothing really about her, but by God, Condi is our gal!" --- Anonymous Freeper

I've repeatedly asked here at FR for anyone to tell me *CONDI'S* stand on a number of issues ranging from economics to school prayer.
I have yet to receive one reply to my queries on where Miss Rice stands on a number of issues.

So can someone please tell me, especially you, Section 9, why I should be excited about a possible Condi Rice presidency run?

FYI: Miss R. in my opinion will prove to be an excellent Sec of State. But POTUS? Sorry, unlike a lot of Freepers my vote requires more than a cute smile or even worse, a fanatical appreciation of the Condi stare.

No wonder so many here can't seem to get behind Tom DeLay.

Just the shear joy of seeing the Dem's heads explode.

I almost had that happen :)

Short version (long available on request): find a liberal friend and suggest Tom Delay!

Sounds like she would not be averse to reversing Roe v. Wade (which wouldn't ban it, just send it back to the states).

I'm actually relieved and would be able to support her. If she runs.

Sez she isn't.

I hear an unspoken "yet".

She is a far stronger candidate than Kerry and will have a number of advantages that Kerry didn't.

Agree. One thing is, she knows how to use the media better. She's a star student of both Alinsky and Bernays, and the media wants to help.

Sounds like she would not be averse to reversing Roe v. Wade (which wouldn't ban it, just send it back to the states).

Sounds like? Why can't she say explicitly what her stance is? Why does she state her position as "mildly pro-choice"? Why aren't partial birth abortions also a states' rights issue as well?

States' rights advocates are strange bedfellows. Some what gay marriage referred back to the states while at the same time supporting Roe vs Wade. It is all a political smokescreen to avoid taking a firm position on controversial issues.

I enjoyed your post. I've been thinking about posting something along these lines for awhile in reference to some of FR's polls.

FYI: I voted "Other/Undecided/Pass" on the current poll.

I think she has stated her stance. That you and I find it mushy and at least imperfect, is a reflection of our disagreement with her stance.

Good morning!

"Maybe Jim, but that's about it."

You mean our Jim, the magnanimous and inspirational provider of this Free Republic? I have to agree, if he chooses to run. But only if he promises to continue ramroding FR from the White House.

I picked Condi, maybe for the same reason Vince McMahon would no doubt love to sign a match up between Condi and Hillary for the main event on one of his WWE PPV extravaganzas.

The fall campaign in 2008 would probably get so hot that it would ever after be remembered as the year with only three seasons-spring, summer, fall.

I'm not sure if Condi has openly stated her position on many issues, which is why I find it surprising that so many freepers would give her a pass and vote her in as President. Like you, I think she will be a great Secretary of State.

I believe Condi has been schooled and groomed by both President Bush 41 & 43. Having the best choice of an administration to support her and her now position of gaining the asset of diplomacy. That's my reason of believing she'd do well.

Shouldn't she have to be held to the same standards that so many other contenders in the past have had to be held to? Namely, has she ever been elected to a position before? Mayor, cicy council, senator etc?

I absolutely, totally agree with you, and well-said.

Can't tell you how many times I've responded to these Condi-cheers with the sincere question, "Do you know her position on abortion, specifically, in her own words?" I don't have a detailed, specific answer to that one yet, though what I've seen is far from comforting.

The bare fact that an adult professedly Christian woman in global public light doesn't have a stated and unambiguous position on abortion is itself not admirable, to say the least.

Senator Allen spoke at our Oklahoma GOP Convention this morning and he was awesome. Sen Allen is a Social and Fiscal Conservative and a fantastic speaker.

What are his positions on illegal aliens and protecting our borders? How would he get the economy moving again and I don't mean moving out of the country.
