WHY TOM DELAY MUST GO RIGHT NOW -- No. 5
dfu | 4-16-05 | dfu

Posted on 04/16/2005 11:24:00 AM PDT by doug from upland

NOTE: This is the fifth in a series of reports about Congressman Tom DeLay and why he must be removed from leadership and from the House of Representatives.

DELAY No. 1
DELAY No. 2
DELAY No. 3
DELAY No. 4

Man, oh man. The internet is such a wonderful tool for research. People just cannot hide from what they have done. This is the one that may finally put an end to Tom DeLay once and for all.

Although his party will never talk about it, DeLay has a racist past that includes the KKK. It seems that he was not only a member but a "Kleagle." That is a recruiter.

DeLay was opposed to both Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas -- the only two BLACK justices ever in the Supreme Court. Gee, what a coincidence.

He was opposed to and filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Of course, DeLay will claim that being in the Klan was youthful indiscretion. Was he 16? Nope. 17? Nope. He was in his mid-twenties.

Three years after DeLay claims that he left the Klan, he wrote a letter to the Klan's Imperial Wizard. "The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth in Texas...It is necessary that the order be promoted immediately and in every state in the Union. Will you please inform me as to the possibility of rebuilding the Klan realm of Texas?" During that time, DeLay was actually advising the Grand Imperial Wizard regarding whom to appoint to important posts in the Klan hierarchy.

Four years after he claims to have left the Klan, DeLay opposed President Truman's integration of the military. His statement, for which he has never apologized, was startling. "[I will] never submit to fight beneath that banner [the American flag] with a Negro by my side. Rather would I die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

Okay, Republican Party. What are you going to do about this? DeLay has never paid the price for his racism. He is in a leadership position and is an embarrassment. When Maxine Waters learns about it, I expect that she will be screaming about it on all the talk shows, demanding that DeLay resign, and launching an investigation as to whether he had a hand in any lynchings. When the NAACP gets involved, it will be curtains for Sheets DeLay. Good riddance.

What? Wait a minute, someone is interrupting me. Are you kidding? It wasn't Tom DeLay who was in the Klan, made those horrible statements, and recruited members? It was who? Robert Byrd? Oh, okay. Never mind.

I've been enjoying these postings of yours, very well done. At present I think the dominance of Baby Boomers in the electorate means we still have out of date impressions of the parties--Dems for The Working Family; Reps for The Rich--that permeated the conventional wisdom. I can only hope that the younger generations are seeing the parties in more nuanced ways, because DeLay is definitely falling into the Evil Republican Scary White Guy slot.

Why, I wouldn't vote for this guy for DOGCATCHER.

What a dirty low no-account FAILURE.

Oh? You say this WASN'T Tom DeLay?

Well, then, I wouldn't vote for that OTHER fellow (felon?), who you said, Byrd?

But somebody has, and likely will again.

OK - I'll take the bait. This could play out 2 ways.

1) RATs win the debate and Delay becomes a burden. Delay should probably go BUT NOT NOW. Let the RATs invest another 12 months of demonizing this guy and then just before election season next year, let him step down. Every Pubbie can proudly go back to his home district and say he personally asked Delay to step down.

2) Delay pulls a Clinton and rides it out - this is the more likely outcome.

Note: I don't see where Delay has done anything any number of RATs haven't done. Opinions are based on how I'd play the political game.

ATTN JULIAN BOND: June 6, 2001 --- KKK Byrd Is 3 Heartbeats from the Presidency
USA TODAY STORY archives | 12-16-02 | dfu

Posted on 12/16/2002 11:20:48 PM PST by doug from upland

FROM USA TODAY -- 6/6/01

By voice vote, the Senate then elected Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., the senior Senate Democrat, as president pro tempore, replacing Sen. Strom Thurmond, R-S.C. That is a constitutional and mostly ceremonial post that is also third in line of succession to the presidency.

Note to Julian Bond: On this day, Mr. Bond, a former member of the KKK became the President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate. Ahead of him in our country's leadership were President George W. Bush, Vice-President Richard Cheney, and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.

Bond was being interviewed by Wolfie Blitzer and made a fool of himself. He defended racist and outrageous statments by Jesse Jackson, saying there was no comparison to Trent Lott. NAACP Chairman Bond, who teaches American History at the University of Virginia, claimed that what Lott said was far more egregious than Jackson because Lott was only 3 heartbeats from the presidency.

Apparently this college history professor should not be in the history department of the University of Virginia. In 8th grade, we learn about the line of succession. Trent Lott, incoming majority leader, is not in the line of succession. KKK Byrd, however, as pointed out to Bond by Arlen Specter, is in the line of succession.

Julian Bond, are you a liar or are you just stupid? Why didn't it bother you that for a year and a half a former KKK member was 3 heartbeats from the presidency?

What a fool.

I think Delay or anyone on his side should do some research, expose all the other members of Congress who have family on the payroll (and in some cases on the government payroll) and are guilty of the same "improprieties" he has been accused of, remove his family from his campaign/pac organization, and challenge the others to do the same.

I should have told you that I made a 2-day business and pleasure trip to Las Vegas a week and a half ago. I would have enjoyed meeting you.

Doug - These are really great. I love the last paragraph in them - "Wait, someone's interrupting me..."

The rules should be the same for all. If DeLay is forced out, fine. But everyone who did similar things must also go. That would certainly include Harry Reid. For goodness sake, Tommy Daschle's wife was a lobbyist, and he voted on bills that affected her clients.

You weren't spending your money in those rich, greedy, environmental-destructive casinos were you? How dare you, doug!

Actually, I'm in Carson City, Nevada, which may be farther or closer to you than Vegas, depending on what part of California you're in.
