As I am an Arizona resident, John McCain is my Senator. When I call his office in Phoenix to express my disappointment in McCains latest vote (against the Bush tax cuts; against drilling in ANWR; against the repeal of the estate tax, etc.), I find that his staffers are often embarrassed to confirm that he indeed voted the way he did.
But when I make the same call to his D.C. office, the staffers there are actually belligerent in their defense of these wayward votes by the maverick Republican. The Beltway indeed represents a different constituency for our elected officials. In McCains case, he was sent to Washington to represent this mostly conservative western-bred State, but he is mainly representing himself and his own ambitions.
Senator McCain reminds me of the Deep Space Nine Star Trek character who could morph into whatever his surroundings included; whether it be part of a wall, the floor, or a glass of water. The purpose was to fool those in the scene into believing they were seeing something familiar and comfortable. So, if Senator McCain is at the Republican National Convention, he rails against Bush-hater Michael Moore. On the other hand, if the Senator is on the lowly-rated Chris Matthews show on MSNBC (and hes on the show constantly), he morphs into a liberal. This is not Maverick, this is Spineless.
So which McCain will show up on the question of finally ending the Democrat obstruction of President Bushs judicial nominees? Lets just say the folks in the Phoenix are getting ready to squirm again.
Yes, but the thing is that Odo had honor and consistency. MkKain has none.
Ready to start up the recall again?
This is not Maverick,....
More like "Mass Pr**k"!
"Ready to start up the recall again?"
LETS DO IT!!!! Sen McCain has thumbed his nose at Arizona for too long. We need to send him the message that he works for us, we don't work for him!
McCain remains nothing but a "power-at-any-price" politician, which aligns him well with his new chosen party, the Socialist Democrats. He also is an opportunist, all for "self" of course, who has a lust for power that could rival that of the Clintons. My gut feel is that he will run against Hitlery in 2008 in the Dem primary. He knows he would not have a chance now on the Repub side...his sheep-costume fell off a long time ago, letting the wolf be exposed...
McCain is also one over my senators. The other one, Jon Kyl kicks Democrat butt. He's a real Republican. During the era of the Clintonista regime, I wrote a letter to McCain complaining about Clinton releasing all those Puerto Rican terrorists from prison so his wife could pick up some Puerto Rican votes in New York. McCain responded with a letter thanking me for my "interest" in Puerto Rican statehood. Go figure.
They no doubt hang up and laugh about the stupid constituents thinking that McC is actually going to represent the people who vote for him rather than the a$$ ki$$ing media.
McCain is not dealing with a full deck he really scares me!!
You are so right. How have we confused this jackass with some member of the bovine family for all these years????
John McCain (R-Mainstream Media)
"maverick" = "contrary" it seems.
joe lieberman is sometimes referred to a "maverick"..
John McCain is a Senator first, first for McCain, way down the list is our Country, if at all. He is not a conservative, therefore not predictable on any given subject. His tendencies appear to be National Socialist, however.
He is the founding member of the McCain First Party. Too bad, his dad was not such a bad fellow.
McCain shows tendencies of being a stone nut. Recall him.
NO he is an AH*&E.
Hell, you're describing 75% of the Senate.
Now that everyone feels sorry for him being a POW, which I do too, we need to get him to explain this.

For years, I was confused by his actions with respect to this issue. He would oppose any POW/MIA related piece of legislation, including the recent Missing Personnel Act, and the bill I sponsored through Fred Upton, the POW/MIA Rescue Act, which would have granted political asylum to any southeast Asian national who brought a living American POW to freedom.
Why would anyone oppose such a bill ... particularly a former POW?
He disagreed with the findings of the 1990 Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which concluded that our government had indeed abandoned some of our men when the war ended. '
Then, in 1991, he was appointed to serve on the long-awaited Senate Select Committee, which was created to investigate the entire issue. Chairman John Kerry wanted to appoint him as co-chairman, but this was greeted by a national uproar from the American Legion, and virtually every national veteran's group in existence who were already suspicious of his previous actions.
U.S. Sen, Bob Smith from New Hampshire was chosen instead, a minor victory at the time by POW activists, .
This particular Senate Committee was single-handedly undermined (in my opinion) by the actions of John McCain. During the course of their several month-long investigation, they heard unbelievable testimony from hundreds of people. No less than four former Secretaries of Defense testified that men were left behind. National Security analysts testified that they tracked the movements of our men long after the war ended. Radio transcripts of American POWs being moved in Laos were recorded in the early 1980s:
There were satellite photos of pilot distress signals taken as recently as 1992, complete with pilot name and authenticator code numbers. Former Soviet Commanders testified that they debriefed our men in the Soviet Union, and even Boris Yeltsin admitted American POWs had been transferred there.
No less than four committee investigators provided the Senators of their estimates ranging from a low of 150 to as many as 600 men who they believed were still alive and in captivity. This doesn't even include the testimony they heard behind closed doors that supposedly endangered our national security.
The conclusions of this committee was that "no credible evidence was provided to support the possibility that Americans were still alive and in captivity," This, despite documents from Soviet Archives that showed that the Vietnamese were holding more than 1,200 American POWs, and released less than 600, John McCain signed his name on this incredibly flawed report.
