In Nevada, Reid Is the Name to Know
Members of one lawmaker's family represent nearly every major industry in their home state. And their clients rely on his goodwill.

WASHINGTON It was the kind of legislation that slips under the radar here.
The name alone made the eyes glaze over: "The Clark County Conservation of Public Land and Natural Resources Act of 2002." In a welter of technical jargon, it dealt with boundary shifts, land trades and other arcane matters all in Nevada.
As he introduced it, Nevada's senior U.S. senator, Democrat Harry Reid, assured colleagues that his bill was a bipartisan measure to protect the environment and help the economy in America's fastest-growing state.
What Reid did not explain was that the bill promised a cavalcade of benefits to real estate developers, corporations and local institutions that were paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in lobbying fees to his sons' and son-in-law's firms, federal lobbyist reports show.

In the last four years alone, their firms have collected more than $2 million in lobbying fees from special interests that were represented by the kids and helped by the senator in Washington.

Reid said he has never used his position to steer business to his family members.

The bill freed about 18,000 acres near the cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas for development and annexation, by releasing two parcels of land from "wilderness study" protection. Key Reid and former Sen. Bryan lobbied for those provisions, lobbyist reports show. City officials did not return phone calls from The Times.

Heard this on Rush today. If the Republicans had any b*lls they would be on this big time. Tom Delay should be on every talk show in America, but I don't think this will happen. The Republicans have no b*lls and no network will invite Tom except Fox methinks..
You heard it HERE first...MUD
It's a downright shame too.
Mudboy, I'm cynical enough to think the Pubs don't have a spine at all. They have this on a silver platter and I bet they spill it. Sorry, I'm just fed up with em'. Rush said the other day we may as well act like the minority.....just let the Demonrats have their way like always. Tom DeLay is their target because he WILL stand up to them and he's doing it all alone. Tell you one thing, not a penny of my money will go to the RNC or any Republican candidate until I start seeing some results and all this playing nice with the Dems has come to an end.
Interesting Reid, I mean read. :)
I don't see any problem with any of this. I like how he battles the Federal government for Neveda land. And to keep gambling legal and mining profitable. No problems with the Senator from me.
Rush's point was that it is nearly impossible in todays 'risk adverse' political climate to not break any rules or seem like there is no conflict of interest. Everyone has a conflict of interest somewhere.
If people are really upset at all of these conflicts of interests then they ought to reduce the power of the Federal government - its the only solution.
READ.. not Reid the dateline!
READ.. not Reid the dateline!
Sorry.. I can never tell a double post with my new and improved Mozilla!
We'll see...you can't believe everything the DemonRAT-loving, Vast LeftWing Medyuh Whore'd says about this...I don't know what the heck they are waiting for, there is no way the RATS will back down and/or compromise.
"Sorry, I'm just fed up with em'. Rush said the other day we may as well act like the minority.....just let the Demonrats have their way like always."
Ahh, Rush is just blowing off steam...did you hear him on Monday? He was talking about packiong it in, which is a joke considering his $200+ Million, 10-year contract. Who in their Right mind would walk away from that sweetheart deal?
, "Tom DeLay is their target because he WILL stand up to them and he's doing it all alone."
No he's not...we are blessed with a lot of good GOPers in the House, not so many in the Senate. My Congressman, Eric Cantor (aka Eric C.) is Deputy Whip and Delay's Right-Hand man. We've talked political philosophy on multiple occasions, and he talks like he's almost as Conservative as I am...LOL!!
"Tell you one thing, not a penny of my money will go to the RNC or any Republican candidate until I start seeing some results and all this playing nice with the Dems has come to an end."
I'm with you there...it's gotten to where I only contribute to specific candidates (like Sen. Allen and Cong. Cantor (and even a small donation to Douglas Wilder's, our new Richmond City Mayor!!
FReegards...MUD
Let's say Harry has always been involved.
" The Trouble With Harry"
I feel confident in saying those boys did not achieve their positions based on their good looks.
Good work. Rewarding the Dems for their obstruction and vicious attacks.
Mudboy, this may be a situation where cooler heads prevail, but I take one little bitty exception to your reply. We see the Pubs time after time buckle under to the Deamons and don't have to see it in the media. I agree the Demons will not back down so they use the last bullet in their arsenal.........personal attacks against anyone who stands up to them. Character asassination if you will and of course the MSLM will run with it. I will be sooooooo disappointed if the Pubs don't follow through.
Coop, I said until I see some results. Will I stay home on election day? NO WAY! At the same time, why should my hard-earned money go to a party or candidate who time after time allows the Demons to run rough-shod over them?
studly looking lot aren't they.... ; )
Your post, as I read it, excluded money for any GOP candidate. If that's what you meant, then I stand by my comment. If you prefer to channel your funds toward those GOP candidates who in your mind exhibit spine (as I believe Mud said up above), then I can certainly understand that position.
