The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

Some U.S. law enforcement officials weren't amused with a cartoon published in Mexican newspapers this month depicting a reward of $10,000 for an FBI or DEA agent.

Hundreds of U.S. Marines from the U.S. 6th Fleet riding hovercrafts stormed ashore on Israel's Nitzanim beach Wednesday as part of maneuvers quietly conducted by U.S. and Israeli armed forces.

The Marines mounted an assault from the sea while Israel Defense Forces troops maneuvered inland until the two forces linked up in Operation Kaya Green. The Marines attached to the U.S. 6th Fleet, based in Italy, specialize in evacuation operations of U.S. personnel and periodically conduct such exercises in Israel.

The IDF declined to release further details in keeping with a U.S.-imposed policy designed to minimize reports of Israeli-U.S. military cooperation. An IDF spokesman said only that Operation Kaya Green was mounted with personnel from the U.S. 6th Fleet as "part of the ongoing cooperation between the two armies." The major IDF component was the ground forces services as well as troops from the IDF's non-commissioned officers' course. In addition to the landing the exercise also involved a large convoy of U.S. military vehicles moving along the coast.
