The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

For some reason the large photo in my post 4117 the first link isn't coming up at all - and it was a very interesting photo - it was the reason I had posted that page. Anyway, strangely enough that same photo has also been removed from another site (ribaat.org).

The photo showed a dimly lit, wide angle interior shot of a C-17(?) transport plane crowded with wounded soldiers lying on the floor, lined up head to toe, with no empty spaces, covered in blankets, and completely filling up the entire huge plane. There were also some soldiers standing wall to wall along the sides of the plane. It was an unusual shot.

Here's the ribaat page where this photo also had appeared earlier. Though it takes forever to load, there are lots of other photos of interest here as well.

While attempting to see if there was any update on the salmonella in South Carolina, I found this information to be more than a little disconcerting:

SNIP: May 23, 2005 E. coli requires disclosure The Allen County Department of Health has no business shielding the location of a small, local day-care center where nine children have been stricken with a deadly strain of E. coli bacteria.

The county health department said Indiana law forbids it to reveal the name and location of the day-care center, as well as the names of the children, said Mindy Waldron, a department spokesperson. Waldron said the county consulted the Indiana State Department of Health in interpreting the law, which prohibits, except under extreme circumstances, public disclosure of “medical or epidemiological information involving a communicable disease or other disease that is a danger to health.”

Wouldn't it be in the best interest of a child to not be endangered by being placed in such a location? The idea of state sanctioned uniformed parents just doesn't sit well with me!
