The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "When the men got to the gate area, however, someone became suspicious and called Philadelphia police. Police detained the men until they were arrested by the FBI and the TSA.

Timothy R. Robinson, 47, of Philadelphia, and Steven A. Lundy, 41, of Roselle, N.J., are accused of making false statements and trying to get onto an airplane with a concealed weapon, the FBI said.

They were held overnight and released on $10,000 unsecured bond Friday afternoon; they have another hearing scheduled for May 27."

At a US Senate Foreign Affaris Committee panel about Iran, the Democratic Senator for Connecticut Christopher Dodd has said that Iran's claim that their nuclear studies are for peaceful purposes only is "not convincing".

Iran is producing long range missiles for the purpose of spreading its power in the Middle East and beyond the Senator added.

According to Dodd, Iran's Shahab-4 missiles have the capacity to reach the Near East and Southeast Europe and this situation puts US bases in Turkey at great risk.

Washington Co.(Oregon) building reopens after hazmat scare

HILLSBORO -- A Washington County building will open a half hour late today following a hazmat scare.

The building was shut down yesterday after an employee received an envelope with white powder inside. Emergency crews evacuated the building. Two people were exposed to the powder. Paramedics had to put them into isolation.

Preliminary tests show the powder was harmless. County employees were pleased at how emergency crews responded.

"They come real quick when something like this comes," said Dave Gramling, who works in the building. "Since nine-eleven, they've been really on top of stuff, trained for this for a long time."

" Man jailed over grenade on plane"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A DEPRESSED Venezuelan man who smuggled a grenade onto a plane bound for Britain, where he intended to blow himself up to highlight humanitarian causes, was today sentenced to six years in jail.

Former mosque worker and devout Muslim Hasil Mohammed Rahaman-Allan, 39, had no links to militant groups and the grenade - hidden in a knee massager - had been disarmed.

Customs officers at London's Gatwick airport discovered the grenade during a random x-ray check in February 2003 after Rahaman-Allan had arrived on a British Airways flight from Caracas.

Police initially charged Rahaman-Allan under anti-terrorism laws, but the prosecution later accepted he had acted as a result of depression caused by the death of his father and separation from his wife and daughter.

The London court heard the grenade could not have been detonated because the fuse and detonator had been removed, although Rahaman-Allan had been unaware of this."

Doctor stabbed to death. Police hope killer left DNA at scene

A prominent physician at San Francisco General Hospital who once headed the San Francisco Medical Society was found stabbed to death inside the doorway of his Diamond Heights home Thursday, police said.

Dr. Robert J. Lull, 64, was discovered on the floor in the entryway of his hilltop home on Gold Mine Drive at Jade Place shortly after noon.

Hospital officials, concerned when he did not show up for the clinic he ran in nuclear medicine, alerted his personal assistant, Elsie Garce, who found the body, authorities said.
