The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. My parents never missed the show. I still laugh at the Halloween gag with the vampire sporting a huge stake in the heart and singing, "Peg O' My Heart". Certainly more entertaining than "Guy and Ralna" singing a duet on Lawrence Welk's show. I still admire Henry Questa's clarinet performances.

The impact of a prolonged electricity loss would be enormous. While I was out of town in Alabama last week, the Pocatello area had winds of 35 MPH with gusts to 55 MPH. The consequence was loss of electrical power to the city water pumps. The city has 5 underground pumps. Very little above ground storage. Water pressure is entirely dependent on having the pumps running.

Those outages underscore the need to have emergency water supplies in places. All the scary stuff we worried about for Y2K could come to pass with a successful strike on our power grid.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "THE GOVERNMENT will not negotiate with terrorists and will go after them with "hammer and thong," (sic) President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declared Friday.
"Our policy is quite clear that we will go hammer and thong [sic] against terrorists. We will not negotiate with terrorists and we shall negotiate peace only with those who absolutely reject terrorism," Arroyo said in a statement she read during a news briefing in Zamboanga City.

Arroyo issued the statement after Admiral William Fallon, chief of the US Pacific Command, warned the government against restarting peace talks with the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), known to have alleged links with the Al-Qaeda terrorist network of Osama bin Laden and the Abu Sayyaf Group."

“It's amazing to me that not more has been made of those phone records,” Johnston said.

Repeated calls were made from Terry Nichols' home to a place called Star Glad Lumber in the Philippines.

“Star Glad Lumber is operated by a man whose brother and cousin were both notorious terrorists, splinter groups of the Abu Sayyaf terror group in the Philippines,” according to Johnston, the attorney.

Nichols also repeatedly called a boarding house in Cebu City, an establishment that has been linked to 1993 World Trade Center bombing mastermind Ramzi Yousef (search). The same kind of ANFO fertilizer fuel bomb was used in New York and in Oklahoma City."
