The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

Last Thursday, ICE agents, assisted by U.S. Postal Inspectors, arrested four individuals, Ali Hawil, Daher Al-Mayahi, Barbara Wilke, and Mohamad Barry, and seized more than $20,000 and a variety of document-production equipment, as part of an ongoing investigation into the production and trafficking of fraudulent State of Michigan driver’s licenses, U.S. Visas, foreign passports and Social Security cards. According to court documents, the investigation began after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized a number of blank Guinea driver’s licenses en route to Hawil. An undercover ICE agent, posing as an Iraqi arms dealer with an Afghan passport, made contact with Hawil, who then arranged a meeting with Al-Mayahi. Al Mayahi demanded several hundred dollars for the driver’s license – something Al Mayahi said he’d done “a thousand times.”

Possible Zarqawi tape vows attacks on U.S.

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) — An audio tape purportedly by one of America's most-wanted insurgents in Iraq, Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, that was posted Friday threatens more attacks against U.S. forces there and warns against collaborating with Americans.

The authenticity of the 18-minute tape, posted on a Web site that is known for getting across messages from Islamic militant groups, could not be determined. The voice on the tape sounded similar to previous audiotapes attributed to the Jordanian-born militant.

The voice on the tape directly addressed President Bush.

"You, Bush, we will not rest until we avenge our dignity," the voice said. "We will not rest while your army is here as long as there is a pulse in our veins."
