McCain Says He Will Vote With Democrats on Filibuster Issue
MSNBC ^ | 4-14-2005

Posted on 04/14/2005 2:18:38 PM PDT by kingattax

This afternoon in a preview for tonight's Hardball on MSNBC at 7 EDT, Arizona Senator John McCain told host Chris Matthews that he will vote with the Democrats against exercising the so-called "nuclear option" to prevent the Democrats from using a filibuster stopping a floor vote on judicial nominees.

McCain said that he wanted to remind Republicans that some day there would be a "liberal president and a Democrat-controlled senate" and there would be no way for Republicans to stop the appointment of liberal judges as his reason for how he will vote.

Well, in the 1990s, Orrin Hatch kept Clinton nominees from getting out of committee. He required two votes on Clinton nominees, but one on Bush votes.

Why does McCain give validity to this historic behavior by Democrats?

People need to make McCain make his case for how this historic sabotage is constitutional or called for.

McLame should just go away and let Alan Alda play him on The West Wing next season. It's the closest the fool will ever get to the Presidency.

Not at all, I wonder if there are any ethical Democrats breaking ranks on this?

I am sure some kind of argument could be made that Republicans have blocked Dem appointments but the fact is there is a tremendous imbalance in the U.S. Judiciary favoring the extreme left.

I suspect more than a few of the leftists have been put there by Republicans.

It's boggles the mind how this creep keeps getting elected in Republican primaries. He is a cancer within the Republican party that has to be removed for the conservatives to accomplish anything.

McCain Says He Will Vote With Democrats on Filibuster Issue

I think the GOP ought to just revoke his membership. *sigh* but there is no party discipline. They think more warm bodies means more victories. Yawn.

We just don't work that way.

No, we just kept them bottled up in committee and kept them from Senate consideration.

So, the rules should be different, depending on which party's in power? Are you really saying that?

What? That *anything* to stick the screws to democrats is OK? Yes.

That’s because they will do *anything* to stick the screws to you. Gotta get on the same page and play the same game by the same rules or you’re intentionally placing yourself at a disadvantage.

I don’t see it as being hypocritical or inconsistent either – you treat regular people like regular people. You treat dopes like dopes. You don’t treat dopes like regular people because they’re not worthy of it. You don’t treat regular people like dopes because they’ve exerted some effort to behave like a regular person and deserve some consideration for their efforts.

The problem is that we have a lot of republicans that are dopes too. I don’t make too much of a fuss when they get screwed.

Also, keep in mind that they were howling when the rules were changed, so should fully support changing it back. Win-win.

I've heard Hagel has gotten the message is job security is a whole lot less secure than McCain's in Nebraska. Hagel most certainly can be defeated in a Nebraska Republican primary and he better understand that.

Hey wasn't there some Asian guy that showed up and had McCain play solitaire and when the queen of hearts came up he went into a hypnotic trance just before he talked to Matthews. Didn't Richard Widmar have this recurring nightmare about a tea party with Soviet and Chinese officials and that he kept saying "John McCAin is the finest man I ever knew?" cause he was some kinda hero in communist captivity? Nah that was a movie I think.

The THREAT of the filibuster is what is bothering our lily-livered Republican arty. It seems to me that a good old-fashioned filibuster would make great TV and would give us all one more chance to scream at our Senators. But these cowards are afraid of the THREAT and so they won't pursue the nomination unless they have 60 sure votes. It's twisted.
